I had to dig deep in the cookie jar to get this thread to the top. It is probably the most complete thread with the profiles of TMian applicants, their path to glory, and where they have applied.

 

IMPORTANT

Please, to all of those who are new to the forum (like I was a month or so ago), feel free to post your profile (iff you are comfortable). This establishes a great way to compare backgrounds, check-up with fellow applicants (if you have applied to the same universities), or have a foundation of information from which to ask questions (and PLEASE feel free to ask questions in the form of a NEW thread--you are sure to get some great, helpful advice).

Pretty soon it would probably be a great idea to start an "official admit/reject thread," since the season is halfway over for most, and completely finished for others. If no one does, I will take the liberty of doing so soon.

GRE: V530 Q770 A4.0 (took it in December, no preparation whatsoever.. like I said, last minute decision to apply)

 

SOP: provocative, mostly about what I concider important questions/ motivations for research;

LORs: 1 ok with emphasis on TA performance; 2 extremely favorable but from intl profs (though one could compare to two Minnesota PhDs oroginally from my BSc school, they are both in tenure-track positions at top 10 depts now)

one short paper on applied math question published in an intl journal;

BSc empirical thesis;

two working papers submitted with application (far from submission quality);

RA experience (6 month) for a star prof;

TA experience - 3 years (1.5 years grad macro);
