B. Black Americans—including Native Son by Richard Wright and Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison

C. a Black American—including Richard Wright, author of Native Son, and Ralph Ellison, author of Invisible Man

D. a Black American—the others being Richard Wright, author of Native Son, and Ralph Ellison, author of Invisible Man

E. a Black American—the others being Richard Wright’s Native Son and Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man

A. Black Americans—the others being Richard Wright, author of Native Son, and Ralph Ellison, author of Invisible Man (compares novels with writers)

B. Black Americans—including Native Son by Richard Wright and Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison (there is only 1 novel of the 3 we are talking about.. Including is inapproriate here)

C. a Black American—including Richard Wright, author of Native Son, and Ralph Ellison, author of Invisible Man (has both errors -of A and B)

D. a Black American—the others being Richard Wright, author of Native Son, and Ralph Ellison, author of Invisible Man (compares novels with writers)

E. a Black American—the others being Richard Wright’s Native Son and Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man

Can't we say like this,

This is one of the three best novels including Y and Z.

yes, but X , Y and Z need to be parallel.

B introduces parallelism errors.

E correct any comparison or parallelism errors, hence E is best.

Also, in E, it says

"one of three best novels by a Black American—the others being Richard Wright’s Native Son and Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man"

At first, this sentence is mentioning 3 best novels by a Black American.......Isn't this imply that three novels were written by one Black American?

Then in second sentence, it talks about Richard Wright's and Ralph Ellison's novels.

I am confused about usage of "a Black American" and "Black Americans".

Please clarify.

It actually says:

"one of the three best novels ever written by a black American-IMO, this does not imply that all 3 novels are written by the same writer. "the" makes the distinction pretty clear,

To me the term "black americans" means that the

Jean Toomer’s Cane wqas written by a group of black American people which is not true. IMO, it should be by a black American to clear this ambiguity.

A and B are clearly wrong.

Others are not writers, but novels. A, C and D are excluded.

E. Toomer’s Cane is called one of the three best novels, others beeing Richard Wright’s Native Son and Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man. Parallel. "Cane is one of the 3 best novels, including..." sounds worse than "Cane is one of the 3 best novels, the others being..." Cane is one, the others are...

IMO E

But I have a question, how can I make sure the part after dash refers to the novels instead of Black Americans.

Then, I would like to choose choice A, because "Black Americans" is nearer than "novels" is to dash part.

Would you explain? Thx !
