  1. Yes I am not married. Looking for an "american" girl so that I get the resident status.. Anyone interested please PM me. My details are in my debriefing! :)
  2. I think what madinhell has heard has a point. I mean B Schools must be very selective in the first round and must be selecting only top notch people because they know they have 1/2 more rounds to go through. In the next round I think they must be getting lenient, a little bit. I think Schools will never accept this but I think this can be the tendency.
  3. Is there any disadvantage of being an Indian IT male in B School when it comes to dating? Damn  I hope, as usual, these poor people are not at the bottom of the priority list of those chics. OR are they on the list?
  4. Bungholio - Nice post. I am also almost in the same situation but.. I will have 1 Yr of H1 B left when I start my MBA in Fall 07. I plan is to get F1 for MBA. Complete MBA. 1 Yr of OPT Meantime get your H1B back for 1 Year. In the same period check your company gets GC on PERM process. (PERM will give GC in shorter time. At least you get labour cleared in less than 6 months so you are automatically eligible for 1 more year extension of H1.) Does this sounds like a good plan guys? The thing that is keeping my full time MBA hopes alive is my 1 year of H1 B period that will be available after my MBA. Any comments?
  5. I have IT background and after enough analysis and forum discussions I have shortlisted following schools. I am not interested in switching the career path and want to work in IT strategy consulting: 1. Wharton 2. Michigan Ross 3. CMU Tepper 4. Columbia 5. Stern 6. Kellog Few more schools I have in mind but I excluded are. 1.Hass 2.UCLA I have GMAT 710 and 6 years (3 india + 3 USA) experience. I have intentionally excluded Sloan after seeing the dings IT + India ppl got for class of 2008 (admissions411.com). I don't want to discourage anyone as everyone has there own strengths and weaknesses. Please note that, not all above schools are Tech related. GMATbong, can you please comment on my selection and profile? Can you comment on Hass and UCLA compared with my selected schools? Appreciate your response.
  6. Agree with mchakrain. One has to try his/her best in every other area irrespective of GMAT/GPA to be competetive.
  7. That's not a bad score and I think If you push little more you are in 700 club. Quant: I have never found any tough exercise but I will say do DIFFICULT and DIFFERENT Quant problems. I think KAPLAN is popular for diff. quant problems. You can use that. Verbal: I think you have done well on verbal. 38 Verbal and 48 quant will land you in 700 club. Focus on difficult problems in quant and don't loose focus from verbal. I am sure next time you will see 700+ on the screen on your final exam.
  8. This is my observation on KAP. I know KAP is not good indicator of your GMAT score but your avg KAP score + 100 will be your actual GMAT score. Don't worry too much @ the KAP Tests scores, but definitely use them, they are good for practice.
  9. Congrats yoda. Definitely a very good score. I understand your feelings about verbal section. Take some rest now and think what you want to do. I don't know what's your profile but depending upon your profile, you can judge whether you need to take the test again. 690 is definitely a very good score to apply to any school. Good luck!
  10. Hey guys - I have GMAT Official Verbal Review and Quant Review Books that I bought for $44 with shipping. If anyone is interested I can send both of these books for $30 with shipping. Books are brand new and bought just 1 month before the exam and used only once. If interested, please PM me.
  11. Congratulations Bungholio! Very good score.
  12. Hi Drexi - I know what you are thinking about verbal. That is the usual case. You feel that you are doing very well on verbal but when you see the result you realize that the things are not what you thougt. This is very common. I will suggest to concentrate on each and every question and try to increase the hit rate. Try for 95% hit rate on verbal. Verbal is very deceiving section because you never know when you make a mistake.
  13. There is no way to do that. Also, you should not spend time doing that. I will suggest you to concentrate on getting maximum hit rate out of the total questions.
  14. Garbage - My prep for AWA was only from the GMAT Prep software. Please go through the GMAT Prep software where the AWA details are given. Read the instructions carefully about the AWA. See the sample essays. What I did was, I read the sample essays and created my own template out of those. I have attached the templates. Please read the instructions from the templates. The key point is making AWA more as a two way conversation than a plain writing. Ask questions in argument essay, use " " to highlight few key assumption words etc. All this really helps.
  15. Hey Guys - Today I got my AWA score. Got 6.00! Q: 50 (95%) V: 35 (76%) AWA: 6 (96%) ------------------- Total: 710 (94%) -------------------
  16. Thanks ajdude. Actually the Boston test center I referred to is the one that in Waltham, MA. It's very nice place. From travel point of view also, it's 5-10 miles outside downtown Boston. Koumudhi - 1000SC is a very popular SC doc among the GMATers. It's definitely a very good practice for GMAT SC. I have uploaded the document. Please note that... 1. You will have to change the .txt extension to .rar for both of the files. 2. Use Winrar tool to extract the files. Search google for winrar tool.
  17. I think A is wrong because... A. There are no legal limits, as there are for cod and haddock, on the size of monkfish that can be caught, a circumstance that contributes to their depletion through overfishing.
  18. Thanks jmeasp, since I work full time I took @ 4 months to prepare. But ideally 2-3 months should be enough I guess.
  19. Please find attached. Diagrams are missing in the quant doc for some strange reason. Also attached Spidey's notes. I have added some more to them. Regarding the stress factor. It's really crucial factor. Don't ever let stress control you. Try to be stressfree by not thinking about the test too much. AWA in the beginning is really a good start to the exam. That really gets you going. Whenever you feel stress, anxiety, take a deep breath. Stay calm for 5-10 seconds. Verbal was little tougher than GPrep as well as OG11. But don't worry definitely manageable. Please see my comments on GMAT Prep exams. I gave KAPTest for practice. I was looking for some tough question on quant. Kaplan Tests are good for practice. Again never really scored more than 620 in Kaplan tests. Thanks chix. Regarding the apps, I have few schools in mind (Wharton, MIT, Chicago etc.). Also, thinking about the part time from Babson. Will spend some time gathering the information and then take the decision. I have some time now.
  20. Thanks Bungholio. Material I used: OG10 (Only Verbal). OG11. Official Verbal and Quant supplements for additional practice. 1000SC. Spidey's notes. (I have extended this with my own notes) Quant Review Doc (I created by gathering all math formulaes from the forum). GMAT Prep. That's it I think. One special note on quant from official books. I really think, only for those people who are good at quant, the official quant questions (OG11 and even from the quant supplement) are absolutely useless. The questions are really easy compared with the real exam questions and there is no value add other than some basic practice. Please concentrate on the moderately tough questions. I can say that you can completely ignore the OG11 quant (even supplement). I really never found any good source of tough quant questions to practice. Bungholio - I will suggest not to bother about the erasable boards at all. They are absolutely fine, little smoother (8-10 light yellow plastic sheets in spiral binding) that's it. The marker is also fine and makes your hands little dirty. As far as I know you are not allowed to take anything inside (your own markers, pens, wrist watch, wallet). Only things you can take inside are: Your locker key, Identity (Passport for non-American residents in America), Given board and marker, tissue paper if you need. The test center I had selected in Boston, I think is the best one. Very professional people and excellent atmosphere. Regarding test scores: I think I made a mistake in giving GMAT Prep almost 2-3 months back. I got @ 660 in the beginning. Afterward I gave GMAT Prep many times but the scores were skewed. Lots of repeated questions. Give Kaplan tests for practice. They are good to feel the pressure.
  21. Okay guys! Finally it's over for me! :sleepy: Just came home from the test. Little disappointed about the verbal score but never mind, that's how things go in life. No regrets now. I really thank everyone and special thanks to Erin for this nice forum. 5+ years IT experience and very good acad will certainly boost my chances in the final application. My quick test experience: 1. AWA:. Nothing much to tell as such. You know that everyone says the same thing about AWA . I am sure no one really concentrates on this section that much. The issue as well as the argument were good enough to provide few examples. Typed enough to get 6 . Let's see the outcome. ;) 2. Quant: Quant started with few lengthy but easy questions. Even though the questions are easy, you get scared by looking at their lengths. Things were little tight in the beginning. I think I made a mistake in 6th or 7th question (DS). Afterward (may be after 15th or so), things eased out. Initially quant was controlling me but later I controlled the section. Might have done few silly mistakes to get 50. :( If I understand the algorithm of the exam, the exam starts with little tough questions till 10-15 question. Afterward, the exam becomes lenient and throws random questions from any bin. It's like "Oh this guy is a hard nut to crack, enough testing now. Let's move on with the regular questions" OR "OK..so this guy has made enough mistakes now. Let's move and not give him very difficult questions". Afterward it's all up to you to get 45-47 or less. I will suggest to spend some time on the first few questions. You should be able to complete the section once you have crossed that testing zone. Again, use your own judgement and see what suits you. 3. Verbal: Well, let me tell you. Verbal was really strange zone for me. Most of the questions (Specially SCs) were really strange. I mean you will not realize what is being tested. I started with a SC. I can't believe but I spent 6 complete minutes on the first question. All choices were very similar and I was not sure which one is better and why. I clicked the one I felt better and moved on . This is at first question.:( I had decided from the beginning that I will not speed up from the beginning. My goal was to get the max correct from the first 10-15. Even though I was lagging I kept my slow pace. CRs were little tougher. Got 2 bold faces I guess. Generally people think that if you get sentence completion then you are NOT doing well. I am not saying I have done really well on Verbal, but I don't think sentence completion indicates that you are not doing well. I think it's one of the type of questions and it usually appears on the test. RCs were average. Only one was little longer but not tough as such. I reached the last 2 questions when I had less than 1 minute. 40th was CR (with some assumption) and last one was SC. For the SC, before I started to read the question I randomly clicked on some answer choice. I knew that the time left is not going allow me to read-and-click. Finally moved on and selected show score. There was no reason to cancel the score. Was little worried about the verbal. You never know about the verbal. Even though I did 1000SC, the SCs in the actual exam felt very different. Bad verbal score can push you down to 650. One thing that matters the most is the good verbal score for good GMAT score. Anyway, finally saw 710 on the screen and felt good. Thought, that's it now! Now all that matters is my final application. As I said earlier, considering my background I think my apps will be competitive. Forgot to tell about me...:p I am a single male (:p Style taken from Lawrence's debrief), 27, Indian. Working in IT for the past 5 years (@ 3 years in the US). Other high scorers have put great debriefings, so there is nothing different to say. If you guys have anything specific to ask, please ask. Thanks and good luck to everyone!
