  1. I agree.. its highly unlikely.... when he said he was getting everything correctly in verbal.. was it because it was getting easier and easier when he was making more and more mistakes.. i doubt!
  2. Wow!! thats a detailed observation!!! I am not too sure what to say as I too am part of “Concentrate First 25-Guess Rest” but in my case i guessed the last 6-7 questions...due to lack of time! In my case atleast....i felt that if i did get the first set right....i had high scores..but then i never had similar wrong for diff tests....so my logic wud not work!
  3. Set test?? I am not sure whether I have ever heard abt it. What is VIP? :hmm:
  4. Thanks all. Feel free to ask any question u guys want, before its too late and I forget whatver i did!! Also if anyone needs softcopies of anything ...do let me know and if i have it, I will mail it to u.
  5. I am not sure whether i am the right person to advice everyone...but let me tell my experience in 2001 ...i wrote GRE.... i overdid the studying part.... went thru a lot of books..... got 1880..i was devastated... i got into a MS program and finally graduated. this time with GMAT...i didnt want to repeat the debacle....so i concentrated on OG 11th edition.... did it almost 2 times took 3 GMATprep tests and made sure i understood each and every mistake...went thru the exercises in the CD too... took 2 kaplan tests..lost my confidence...realized i was repeating the same mistake of concentrating on too many things i went back to my OG study....... did a few questions on this forum... etc i also went thru the AWA writing on princeton did a full hearted study for 20 days...as i had a training in the week before my exam.... didnt study anything in the last 3 days... except maybe skim thru the notes i had made.... so practically went real refreshed....... wrote GMAT....got a 730 btw writing notes do help...i had prepared a 4 page note listing all the grammer rules and some 7-8 tough quant questions.... when i saw tough i mean permutation and combination...i hate that
  6. Financial times and Wall street journal ---------------- sorry....didnt see the other replies posted!
  7. well all the ones i mentioned are Male Indian IT and 2-3 years work exp here is what one of my friends wrote to me "My roommate (Indian IT male) got an admit to Indiana Kelly at par with Austin) with 650 GMAT... A friend of mine (Indian IT male) got into Wharton with 720 GMAT"
  8. I have a friend who got 670 and got into McCombs. So relax...this is not a bad score. Verbal does screw ppl at times... its not us....its the time and maybe the luck....keep your cool... I had another friend who got full funding in Georgia tech with a 690. So bottom line...it is not as bad as u think it is
  9. schools...havent decided yet.... univ of virginia...is surely one. I have only 11 months of work exp...so have decided to work for 2 years...and join a program in 2008.:grad:
  10. bungholio, i took the GMATprep 3 times..... the original cd i got when i registered had 2...then i downloaded it again on my office PC...that was a diff set of questions.....just the AWA was same. I dont have the doc with me at home. I promise u i will post it on monday once i get to office. bungholio, here is the file. I am sorry, I dont remember which thread i got this doc from. So please bear with me for not acknowledging the author properly!
  11. They were all SC and CR questions...i think 2 from each.... I dont remember exactly. The advantage u get when u see a question that u know is that (1) u know u got those right (2) U can save a lot of time which u can invest on the rest In addition to this there was one galaxy passage in my CR section, I had already read the same as a RC before in my GMATPrep test 2. Infact there was on asteroids that came as RC on the real test but as a CR on OG. I definitely felt that the quant section was tougher for the real test than i ever did. But then there are other factors also that mite have made me feel like it was more tougher..like pressure....tension...etc. The first five questions..... i really thought they were tough... no actually its more than that....the first 10 questions were real tough......the rest were all OG standard. Then again u have to remember that..its not the method that is tough. My inexperience mite be the factor that made me take almost 2-3 mins to just understand the question. I was real lucky in the fact that there was no permutation and C or Probability questions asked. Never get tense seeing a question that u initially think u dont know. I was confident that i wud take GMAT again and again until i get a good score. Therefore i never cared whether i thought a question was too tough...once u read it thoroughly...its easy to understand. U can approach GMAT in 2 ways... (1) read lots and lots of stuff (2) concentrate on some stuff...but learn that in depth. I barely studied for a month..so i cud afford only approach 2. There I am sorry i really dont know other good sources for math. Someone had posted a few questions in some thread called difficult questions. I have a softcopy...but i did get it as a word attachment from some thread...i am sorry i dont remember which That one is a pretty good compilation of tough questions. I didnt know how to do many of them. :( Verbal section is either at par or maybe easier than OG
  12. Wow ...thats lot of information...... I have quoted what u have written above to a lot of friends.... its really interesting and important to know these things But then ...I sure am glad i didnt read this(natural ability part) before i took the test..... coz if i had..i surely wud have become tense and screwed it up.:hmm:
  13. :D only thing is....sometimes when u dont have the latest ed of books you feel like u are not up to date..rather u are missing something... thats the reason why i always buy the latest ed of books...
  14. for this to be an integer (2*3*5*13)/(k) K has to be either 2,3,5, 13...or a combination of these numbers obtained by mutiplying them with each other.... then u look into the choices.... u find that only 26 which is 2 * 13...can satisfy this condition therefore the ans
  15. To be frank, though i started off with OG 10, I switched to OG 11 in a couple of days. I did not do an extensive study of OG 10 to compare. The part that I did, I definitely did not find many common questions.... ie in verbal atleast..but then i must have done only around 100 questions Brand new OG 11 was just 23$ in amazon and OG math around 11$. If u can spend 250$ on a test why not 34$ more on a book that wud help you optimize your score! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0976570904/ref=pd_sim_b_2/104-5478305-3276719?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=283155 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0976570920/ref=pd_bxgy_img_b/104-5478305-3276719?%5Fencoding=UTF8
  16. Spidey notes ....i too could not find.........now...when i searched the other one...is this http://www.www.urch.com/forums/gmat-sentence-correction/35481-sc-tips.html regarding the AWA.....i wrote for almost 15 mins and then i realized that what i was typing in had no connection with the real topic.... infact if i graded it myself....i wudnt give it more than a 2
  17. Thank you all........ Ok.......here is my report My scores first Quant 49(90 percentile) Verbal 41(93 percentile) Final score 730(97 percentile) First let me start with the exam. Analysis of an argument went well.......but analysis of an issue.... I am sure the person evaluating it...will come back and reduce my score by say 100 if he could. Quant - the first 5 questions took 15 mins straight. They were getting real tough as i moved on. Especially the 5th, i didnt even understand the question so i just picked one out of the two which looked logical. I think the data sufficiency questions were easier than the problem solving ones. I did not get a chance to read properly the last 3 questions as i had just 1 min left. I normally used to finish quant well before the stipulated time in all the practice tests. But when it came to the real thing, i guess i didnt do that much of a good job. I dont regret spending much time on the first questions though. I normally suck at permutation and combination as well as probability. FOrtunately for me there was not even a single question from these sections.....or maybe there was 1...dont remember. I normally used to get around 50 for verbal...but got only 49 in the real test...but i am not complaining...i am more than happy about my score! Verbal section......all credit to OG.... i have done the whole OG verbal section esp sentense correction atleast twice....and that helped to a great deal. I also made good use of the SC tips thread and the spidey notes. Please make sure u do read OG thoroughly....u wont regret it.....it is definitely helpful. The whole verbal section went decently except maybe the RC part. There was one passage where I felt like I wanted to meet the person who wrote it so that i can ask him or her what was actually meant. I cud make no sense from it and there were 4 questions from it...... I had never even seen a score above 32 in verbal on any of my mock tests. So it came as a pleasant shock to me seeing 41. I guess luck has a major role too. There were 4 questions which i had seen before somewhere and I knew the answer. This helped me save time and dedicate more time to the other questions. Verbal section was finished comfortably with almost 2 mins to spare. My preparation I started studying in March.....begining...actually after I had booked my GMAT date. My mock test scores are Powerprep 660(no preparation) Powerprep 650(2 weeks ago) Powerprep 700(4 days before the exam) Kaplan 1 - 550 Kaplan 2 - 550 as you can see my highest was my GMAT real test. My normal accuracy rate for OG was 80%. I had made an excel sheet to calculate my accuracy. It kinda peaked at the middle and then went down for some wierd reason. I have finished OG 11th ed almost 2 times....esp verbal Math OG 11th ed.....once Princeton I just read the regular rules. I made sure that i went through the whole GMATprep cd tests and analysis thoroughly I dont like Kaplan. Infact when I wrote GRE, I blame Kaplan for my bad performance. I am not saying Kaplan is bad.........but it confuses you. The method of explanation rather approach sometimes contradicts what OG or GMATprep would tell you. An example is following the rules....normally I had studied that whether can be chosen over IF in similar cases...but in Kaplan test 2....i got an answer wrong with whether and the right choice was shown to be IF... these things confuse u..so i never even bothered to see the answer explanation. Kaplan is good..just to motivate u..it demoralizes one so much that u start studying..hoping not to waste the 250$ paid for the test. I cant stress more the importance of following one set of reasoning for everything. Please do stick to one approach for dealing with CR. I stopped studying 3 days before the exam...and that kinda kept me fresh when i finally wrote it. I hope this is detailed enough. if anyone needs any more info...please do ask...i will try to answer them if i can.... I hope this helps from Powerprep 1 from OG 4
  18. Hi all... I am just back after finishing my GMAT. I wanted to thank everyone in this forum for their help [clap] [clap] . Though i have not been that much of an active member ...still I had made it a habit to go through various posts and reply whenever I could. I will put in the details of the exam in a little while. So please bear with me
  19. Paul, something similar happened to me while writing GRE(in 2001). I got pretty good scores(2000+) on the practice tests but when it came to the real test, I screwed up. I got 1880. Then I realized that I was following the Kaplan method in verbal(400), which had caused my downfall. All my friends who took up powerprep and princeton got pretty good marks. This is not to say that Kaplan is bad but if studying Kaplan make sure u dedicate enough time to understand what the logic is and dont get confused by 2 different approaches...like I did My point is, an analysis will show you where you mite have gone wrong... Like rampage said...keep the faith. Where I get my material is from testmagic, scoretop and various orkut forums. Best of luck
  20. Thanks for the pointers. They are really useful, especially the starting methods. Will follow your advice while taking the test.
  21. More details on the question?
  22. I agree with Manish 4 m/c x units in 6 days 1 m/c = x/24 in 1 day therefore to get 3x in 4 days x*18*4/24 will give u 3x ...therefore ans is 18
  23. I am opting for C C. 2.56 x 10^4 dollars 1st person 1st card 200 2nd 400 2nd person 1st..800 2nd 1600 ... 4th person 2nd card 25600 ie 2.56 x 10^4 dollars
  24. ok the coffee problem what we have is F = 120(2^-at) + 60 it is given that for 10 mins the temp was 120 we can use this to find the constant a 120 = 120(2^-10a) + 60 gives 2 = 2^10a implies a = 1/10 now put this in the equation F = 120(2^-t/10) + 60 put t = 30 we get F = 120(2^-3) + 60 = 60[(2/2^3) + 1 ] = 60 * 5/4 which is 75 Hope this helps Now for the store problem I believe the answer is B...ie option 2 alone is enough reason...... it says on saturday the store sold 38 that leaves us 90-38 for the remaining 6 days.... we need to know whether it sold more than 11 on friday which according to the question was the day the store sold 2nd highest so lets assume it sold exactly 11 on friday then..... it says everyday a different no was sold so lets take 11 on friday 10 on thurs 9 on wed 8 on tue 7 on mon 6 on sunday still the total wud come to only 51, so that means we have to sell more than 11 on fri as fri is the day with 2nd rank in sales. therefore B alone is sufficient the triangle question..i dont know how to get the ans from 1 i am getting both required..... from COD = 60 we can get COA = 120 IF BCO is 40 ...we get BAO = 20... i dont know how to arrive at the ans with just the first value the fourth question...what is the ans? if combining k > 35 and units digit of k is > 5 then we can arrive at a solution 3 as the options for k+5 = 4 will be just 36 till 39 therefore i wud say option C the last question....... we have mod( x - 2) = 4 ie x - 2 = +/- 4 ie x = 2 or x = -6 from option 1 we know that we can eliminate 2 therefore ans is -6 from 2 ...again we know x is -6 therefore the correct choice is D
