I advise you concentrate on the verbal. Manhattan SC book is a must! Do those SETS 21-30 that high-scorers (V45+) have been talking about and you should touch V40. Math will be better next time anyway because now you know what to expect and you will be more relaxed. Good luck!

The safest way is to go to the web sites of the schools you want to apply to and search for the GMAT score they take into account. Every school gives this info on a web site. I know that Harvard, Columbia, Stanford, MIT, Wharton look only at the score you report - i.e. your highest score. If you are so confident, then go and retake the test, don¸t leave this score to bother you the rest of your life (I would do so), you can¸t loose anything.

Ans A we need form n*(n+1)*(n+2) to capture at least one number divisible by 3. As n>6, then n*(n+1)*(n-4) is divisible by 3(just add 6 to (n-4) and get n+2). This wouldn`t be the case with n=5, for example,because then answer C would also be valid as zero is divisible by an integer...

Congratulations, this is a great score anyway! In my opinion, 680 should be ok for Michigan and Duke. In combination with your extensive work experience, and other personal stuff, you should get in. However, you know that it is hard to evaluate the chances only based on GMAT, GPA and WE. I saw that Columbia accepted applicants with GMAT 520, but those applicants had other strenghts that compensated really bad GMAT score. Good luck!

You have to distinguish two things: -existence of emergency situation (0.002) -probability that the alarm will respond to the emergency situation (0.98) Hence, alarm sounds when rare emg. situation exists: 0.98*0.002=0.00196 There is a possibility that the emergency situation exists and that the alarm fails to respond (1-0.98). This is like when a building that has an alarm, and one day a thief breaks in. The alarm may and may not sound. There is also a probability that the alarm sounds and that the emergency situation does not exist. Like when a vibration from a truck trigers the alarm. alarm sounds when rare emg. situation doesn`t exist: 0,01*0,998=0.00998 Therefore, when the alarm sounds, it may or may not be an emergency situation. These two events are independent and we have to add their probability.0.00196+0.00998=0.01194 The question is what is the probability that emergency situation trigered the alarm, if the alarm already sounds. The lenght of a raisable section is 28m. Mike, I am sorry that you couldn¸t reach 780. This score requires making just few mistakes in 37+41 questions, which is really tough. We are getting back to the question of all questions: HOW TO PREPARE FOR SCORING 800??? Is it a matter of pure intelligence? What prep material is at this level (except GPREP)? Argo, do you want to say that Columbia interviews only a small part of the applicant pool and that the most of the interviewed applicants are admitted? Something similar as Harvard? (HBS interviews around 20% off all applicants and admits more than 50% of these interviewed= 12-13% applicants admitted) I do not have this information, could you throw some light? GMAT-BONG, do you know more about this? THX!!!

I`d like to share my point of view about a MBA degree and its financial gains. I am among top-paid executives in my country which is very underdeveloped. My annual compensation is around $15000 and that is almost the top wage here. If I earn a MBA degree from a top 10 program, I can expect with great certainty that I will be working in an developed country, earning $100K+ within 5 years after graduation. Hence, I`ll be able to repay my educational loan and have a great career in the next 30 years of my life, which I cannot expect here in my @$**$&*&^$ country. So, if you already have a 100K+ job, maybe the MBA won`t pay off financially, however, I believe that having a MBA degree from Harvard or other great university is a great personal satisfaction and achievement. It is not all about the money. Good luck!

Man, I wonder if I could have done better on the verbal if I had practiced those verbal sets you and Clinton talked about. I scored V38, but if I had had V45, with my 49 quant I could have reached the 99 percentile overall. However, I¸m not taking the GMAT again, I¸m done. In its 2006 report, Columbia stated that alumni and current students interviewed 88% of admited applicants, so the situation has changed: Columbia interviews most of its admitted students. If I were you, I would do whatever it takes to get into such a great school. Good luck and keep us informed!

Jonny, mjjs are series of quant problems very similar to the real GMAT. I saw a few of these on my real exam. You can find them on gmatnetwork yahoo group and in Clintonnş post in Just Finished My GMAT section.

For quant do mjjs, visit gmatnetworkyahoogroup for additional prep material, participate on this forum, post 200 constructive comments, do not read solutions passively. So, you will need six months of tough prep to score 700+, but you can do it. Now it`s up to you, do you really want it? Good luck!!

I believe that Columbia wouldn`t spend time on arranging an interview with you if you did not stand a good chance to be admitted. Thing positively, this is a great sign. Good luck, and maybe we`ll meet there!
