  1. According to set ans key OA EDBC However, IMHO that ans to the last question is B What do you guys think? Here's the question again- Q The author mentions the “aftermath of the Mount Saint Helens eruption” (lines 73-74) most likely in order to A. provide an example of the process that allows the repopulation of rivers whose indigenous salmon population has become extinct B. indicate the extent to which the disturbance of salmon habitat by human activity in one stream might affect the genetic structure of salmon populations elsewhere C. provide a standard of comparison against which the impact of human activity on the gene flow among salmon populations should be measured D. show how salmons’ homing instinct can be impaired as a result of severe environmental degradation of their natal streams E. show why straying rates in salmon populations remain generally low except when spawning streams suffer severe environmental disturbance
  2. Good solution from archive GMAT-HELP series
  3. In order to have terminating decimal, the denominator should be something that can be converted to a form 10^x where x is an integer. This is only possible when denominator is of form 2^x * 5^y, where x and y are any integers. Then we can multiply both numerator and denominator by either 2^(y-x) or 5^ (x-y) and make it either 10^x or 10^y. Hence in the question values of a,c and e does not matter

    remainders

Statement#1 x=4a+3 Dont know the value of y. If y is a multiple of 4, then xy/4 will have no remainder, otherwise there are multiple possibilities of remainder Not sufficient Statement#2 y=4c+2 Same scenario as statement#1 since we dont know the value of x Not sufficient Statement#1&2 y=4c+2 x=4a+3 xy=(4c+2)(4a+3) =16p+12q+8r+6=4k+2 Hence the remainder is 2 Ans=C
  5. Kannn -One way to avoid such errors is to write the possible values of variable.
  6. Use Fraction Rep for easier maths m/3+f/5=m/4 +f/4
  7. Sequence Gà Y à R Question –What is the 24th tile? Statement#1 18th tile is not yellow and hence can be Green or Red 1 Y G 2 R Y 3 G R 24th tile can be G or R No sufficient Statement#2 19th tile is not green and hence can be Yellow or Red Possible combination 1 R G 2 G Y 3 Y R 24th tile can be Y or R No sufficient Statement #1 and #2 24th tile is R IMO=C
  8. Concept -For fraction p/q to be a terminating decimal, the numerator must be an integer and the denominator must be an integer that can be expressed in the form of 2^x5^y where x and y are nonnegative integers. p/q =(2^a)*(3^b)/((2^c)*(3^d)*(5^e)) Hence we need to know whether b>d (1)Not sufficient (2)Yes IMO =B
  9. Statement#1 | y + z| = | y| + | z| yz>0 y and z have the same sign Dont know the sign of x Not sufficient Statement#2 | x + y| = | x| + | y| xy>0 x and y have same sign z can be + or - -------------------------- x y z Is x (y + z) >= 0 -------------------------- + + - N + + + Y Not sufficient Statement 1 and 2 x, y and z have same sign -------------------------- x y z Is x (y + z) >= 0 -------------------------- - - - Y + + + Y Ans=C
  10. El nino, the periodic abnormal warming of the sea surface off peru, a phenomenon in which changes in the ocean and atmosphere combine allowing the warm water that has accumulated in the western pacific to flow back to the east. The modifier highlighted in blue should be removed and what follows that should start with verb Hence a,b,c out Between D and E-in which is better because "where" refers to a place
  11. IamnotFrench has a good point What is the grammar rule for selecting ? (a)as states open their utility markets to competition Vs (b)with states opening their utility markets to competition.

  14. Scope : mall -rural area/mid-sized city will benefit the city by creating jobs A. A citizens’ group has circulated a petition collecting signatures in support of the developer’s plan. This does not mention how many people are supporting this petition C. The developer has already obtained verbal agreements from several retailers who plan to open stores in the future shopping mall. No need for this are the argument is already qualified “if successful” D. The city’s largest percentage of unemployed people lives in the rural area where the proposed shopping mall would be built. We know how bad the situation is from the argument- the unemployment rate is slightly higher than the national average. E. The city will benefitfinancially from the new shopping mall, because all sales tax revenues will go to the city. E it is
  15. IMO : B Question :Assumption -companies will increase profits by hiring fewer full-time employees Tough one A. Internet companies that use open-source software are better suited to function efficiently with only a small core staff than traditional companies. B. The amount of administrative work to be performed in internet companies is small enough that it can reasonably be completed by fewer full-time employees. Establishes the feasibility that companies can function with fewer full time employees C. Full-time employees and volunteers will have different levels of access to most projects undertaken by the company. D. Internet companies will hire more full-time employees as they become more profitable due to volunteer contributions. E. Companies that rely on both full-time employees and volunteer labor increase their overall revenue per working hour. Close one-Since it refers to both full-time employees and volunteer labor and does not specifically point out the advantage of using fewer employees Interesting to find OA
  16. Given b b=7n+1 What is the value of b? (1)b=9a+6 15,24,33,42 Possible options of b is 15 (2)b=4k+3 7,11,15,19,23,27,31,35,39,43,47 Possible options -15,43 Ans=A
  17. Sum of 5 #'s is 60 Statement#1 m=(60-m)/3 or 4m=60 m=15 Statement#2 60-m=45 m=15 Ans=D
  18. Hi! WOW Great Score!! Congratulations ... Can you please let us know your strategy in preparing for verbal ? Would appreciate if you can share SC notes and or tips to improve RC. Best of luck for apps
  19. If x A) -x B) -1 C) 1 D) x E) sqr(x) One way to solve this is to take value of x =-2 sqrt(-[-2]|-2|) =sqrt(2*2) =2 which is -x and hence ans is A
  20. IMO A X=43k + r r=? Statement 1: X+10=43k X+10=43a+43 where a is an int X=43a+43-10 X=43a+33 Sufficient Statement 2: X+43 = 10k X= 10k-43 X= 10s +10-3 where s is an int X= 10s +7 X can be 7, 17, 27 and hence we get different remainders when x is divided by 43 Ans(A)
  21. PRREEET'S method is good Another example Married Couple/Twin There are 5 married couples and a group of three is to be formed out of them; how many arrangements are there if a husband and wife may not be in the same group? Total 10C3 =10*9*8/3*2=120 Favorable event 1st -Select one from couple 5C1=5 2nd -Select another from couple 4C1=4 3rd -Remove the couple from total 10-4=6. Select anther person from remaining total 6C1=6 P=1-5*4*6/120 Is this okay?
  22. yowas approach is good 10/4-x/5=1 or x=7.5 Time 11-7.5=3.5 or @3.30pm
  23. In GMAT question you need to be familiar with 2^n -2,4,8,16,32 etc When you see terms of series as 3,5,17,33 you know that the terms can be represented by 2^n+1
