what should be the answer and why?
mickgreen58 replied to sweetu1995's topic in GRE Analogies and Antonyms
Good Analgoy. This is why the GRE Verbal section is so hard. It has nothing to do with Word List, but your knowledge of in depth things. This is where i use Process of Elimination. A, B, and C don't make sense. I kind of know what a Summit is, and I dont think that works here. So by POE, I would go with D on the GRE and move on. -
Thanks for the input. I too messed up on the Verbal section and found out that it was not all about memorizing the words.
-
Correct. I just wanted to explain the process.
-
Thanks Dissa. I misread the problem, I thought they told us DF = DE.

Please let me know if my logic is wrong: A Mean = 10 B Mean = 11 Just looking at the sets and subtracting the values from the Mean A = 4,4,1,0,4,5 B = 4,2,1,0,3,4 Just by eyeballing, Set A sum is bigger (I believe you would square each value, sum and then take the square root to find the SD), so the Square Root for A is going to be bigger than B.
-
I tried to find the other angles in Quadrilateral BCDF but the sums didn't make sense.

Column A = x Column B = 40 http://www.michaeldeongreen.com/gre/IMG00002-20090514-0756.jpg

Thanks for the input Goldust. If calculators were allowed, I think the GRE Math Section would become alot harder. Since they know you don't have a calculator, they won't force you to work with large numbers.

1) This can be narrowed down to Choice A or D. The key word in this sentence is the words Despite and Begun. These words suggest that "some scholars" are starting to do something that "many other scholars" are not doing. Despite the doubt or skepticism of many of their colleagues, some scholars are starting to emphasize that pop culture can be used for understanding or deciphering the myths, hopes, and fears of society. Choice A doesn't fit because Antipathy is too strong and the Entangling doesn't make sense because it suggest that they are making things more complex by entangling, when you want to untangle things. 2) The key words here are denied and anyone. This could be narrowed down to Choice B and D. Because outlaws were denied "protection" under medieval law, anyone (rich person, poor person, a woman, man etc etc) could raise a hand against them without fear of "legal repraisal or legal impunity". "Rights" fit the first blank, but collaboration doesn't make much sense. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the effort. -
This is a hard one. I will go with C.
-
I think the answer is either A or B and I will go with B.

This question was answered already...

For #1, I went with the obvious choice of E (couldn't think of two other numbers besides 14 and 12). For #2, I Choose D. My reasoning: I let x = 2 So y 0 If y = 1, then Column A is bigger, if y = 3.9 then B is bigger. What are the answers?

Where am I going wrong with this problem? 7. One Liquid Solution Of 7 Liters Contains 40% Water. A Second Liquid Solution Of 18 Liters Contains 20% Water. If These Two Solutions Are Mixed, What Percent Of The Mixture Is Water? A. 20 B. 25.6 C. 34.4 D. 36 E. 60 Since we are looking for a %, I figure the 7 and the 18 is irrelevant. How come I just cant let 7L = 100 and 18L = 100 60/200 = 3/10

8. If Dr. Jones Has Seven Different Trees, How Many Different Combinations Of 3 Three Trees Can He Plant Outside Of His Mansion? A.30 B.32 C.33 D.34 E.35 35
-
Luma, question, why wouldn't it be : (4.5 x 3.5) + (.25 x .25)?
-
Can you break this problem down?
-
For #1, I just used "Plug in" technique. Started with the middle value which is 60. Once you plug in, you can see that M = 360, which is higher than what they told you the total value was. So now you know 60 is too big, so you can get rid of 60, 120, and 180. I then chose to plug in 30, so if 30 is wrong, I know 15 is the answer. Answer is 30

I would say C. What is the OA? -
Godblessu, can you provide some more detail about the math section? What percentage of the test would you say was "Word Problems". Problem Solving is my biggest weakness and I am not sure what to do at the moment.
