  5. Dear Effective .. I have given few 800 score tests so far . i find questions little difficult .....I find options are very close especially in verbal . It takes considerable time to eliminate wrong choices ..Some CRs look very weired to me ...I think GMAT will be easier than 800 score test:) can you please share your score ?
  6. IMO A as explained before .. option B is a trap .. passage mentions that 'because of grade inflation, the honors degree goes to the 50?% of the graduating class' ... option B reverses this info 'awarding many honors degree causes colleage to inflate grades' this can never be the assumption ...this trap is used in many wrong choices
  7. IMO D ... conclusion is 'everyone who lives long will develop the disease ' .... option D clearly weakens the conclusion by showing that some people lack the chemicals required to convert protein deposits into lesions ...
  8. Yes D seems to be the best option .. DEMAND is always in subjuctive mood .. 'demanded that' is the correct form 'demanded to ' is incorrect.......

  10. @Rising sun : thanks for the explanation 1st bold face seems a fact ..because 'during landing ..navigation system uses radio signal' could change in furute .. this is the situation at present... so . 1st bold face is a fact and the argument conclusion is based on this fact .. do you agree with me ?
  11. (B) For the thousands of traumatized victims of one of the worst natural calamities to hit the eastern coast of South America, relief came from a rather unexpected source – the Silicon Valley Millionaires’ Club. --prepositional phrase 'for the thousands ...South America' is non-restrictive in B ...logically it should be restrictive ..it is required to modify 'relief' (D) Relief came for the thousands of traumatized victims of one of the worst natural calamities to hit the eastern coast of South America from a rather unexpected source – the Silicon Valley Millionaires’ Club. --makes the prepostional phrase restrictive ..so probably this is better option .. i am not sure whether such close choices will be there in actual GMAT ...Bob please help in understanding this riddle !!!
  12. IMO B ... 1st bold face is FACT and not a principle ... Principle seems to suggest a fact that is always true ..eternal fact.... I don't have the OA for this :hmm: can someone please explain the difference b/w fact and principle?
  13. 1. Modern navigation systems, which are found in most of today? commercial aircraft, are made with low-power circuitry, which is more susceptible to interference than the vacuum-tube circuitry found in older planes. During landing, navigation systems receive radio signals from the airport to guide the plane to the runway. Recently, one plane with low-power circuitry veered off course during landing, its dials dimming, when a passenger turned on a laptop computer. Clearly, modern aircraft navigation systems are being put at risk by the electronic devices that passengers carry on board, such as cassette players and laptop computer The two portions in boldface play which of the following roles? (A) The first is a principle that the argument relies on and the second is a conclusion that can be drawn from the first. (B) The first is a fact that argument relies on and the second is a conclusion that must be drawn from this argument. © The first acknowledges a consideration that supports that main position; the second is that conclusion. (D) The first is an evidence that supports the conclusion, the second is that conclusion. (E) The first is a principle that is necessary for this argument, the second is a conclusion that could be drawn from this argument.
  14. i have uploaded the question .. Please explain !!
  15. IMO A conclusion: people should avoid using artificial fat .... premise : it takes the vitamin out of the body option A , if the vitamin deficiency can be compensated by eating more vitamin then people should not avoid using artificial fat ( conclusion is weakened) but if the vitamin deficiency can't be compensated then peple should not eat artificial fat ( conclusion is supported ) ... so option A is the correct choice that should be evaluated ..
  16. can any one take this up? I am confused b/w B and D ... both look correct to me .. However D is the OA .. I think B correctly uses the modifier to modify 'relief' .. the subject and verb are closely placed 'relief came from ...' then why the OA is D ????? Bob : please help us .......
  17. @ranjeet : please hide the OA ... option D ,if at all, supports the mother's plan .. low price chain has causes the slowdown in the Benito's business .... perhaps by drawing its customers .. if he lowers the price then his business will become more competitive... option B supports his plan.. current production can't be increased so his mother's plan ( based on increase in the no of cutomers ) will not achieve the goal .. the only way to increase the profit is to increase the price .. supports his plan
  18. IMO A .. conclusion:contact sports such as football doesn't encourage agressiveness .. premise : Football players probably are more agressive that tennis players .. last 3 choices are not relevant ... b/w A and B , A shows that Football players became more hostile during the season and even during OFF season , they continues to be hostile ... in way, contact sports is not encouraging the agressiveness .. the conclusion is supported .. Strengthen /weaken CR: Identify the conclusion .. correct answer will strenghten /weaken the conclusion ..
  19. © A recent United States study showed striking similarities in identical twins reared apart from each other that include many idiosyncrasies of behavior. ...'that' refers to 'similarities' here ... 'that' can't refer to 'twins' ,living things ....still this option incorrectly suggests that STUDY showed the similarities instead of Identical Twins (D) According to a recent United States study, identical twins reared apart from each other showed striking similarities, including many idiosyncrasies of behavior. --- Participle 'including' after coma changes the meaning ....seems to suggest that Identical twins include the idiosyncrasies of behaviour ...Without comma, this option is correct OG 11 SC: Market for bygone products that is bringing ...'that' refers to 'market' TM Gurus !! please comment ..

  22. The president’s nominees to federal circuit courts have been judged conservative for their stands on hot-button issues. But a review of their financial disclosure forms and Senate questionnaires reveals that the nominees are more notable for their close ties to corporate and economic interests, especially the energy and mining industries. Some of them were paid lobbyists for those same interests. Further, the nominees with industry ties were overwhelmingly appointed to circuit courts regarded as traditional battlegrounds over litigation affecting these industries. Independent observers who follow the federal bench believe that the extensive corporate involvement among so many of the nominees is unprecedented. In the argument above, the two portions in boldface pay which of the following roles? 1) The first is a generalization that the author aims to attack; the second is that attack. 2)· The first is pattern that the author acknowledges as true; thesecond is the author’s conclusion based on that acknowledgment. 3)· The first is a phenomenon that the author accepts as true; the second is evidence in support of the author’s conclusion. ·4) The first is the author’s position based on the evidence cited; the second is a pattern presented in support of that position. 5)· The first is an exception to a rule introduced in the argument; the second provides the reasoning behind the exception.
