  1. Any idea whether Mannheim has already made all the admission decisions this year or not? I am yet to hear from them and am now thinking that I am out.
  2. I believe it will be BGSE, Bonn compared to CDSE. Congratulation on your acceptances. There is a general belief the BGSE is number one prog in Germany and if I remember correctly, at the time I was doing background research on schools in Germany, I noticed BGSE is quite big and has a good balance of macro-micro.

Fourth school in a row without funding. Institution: GSEFM Frankfurt Program: PhD Economics Decision: Accepted Funding: Full tuition waiver but no stipend in the first year. The only hope I have now is for funding in U Oregon.
  4. Yes, actually I also saw but there were too few results compared to other schools. Could just be a coincidence that those heard from GWU were not active on gc or here. With every passing day my hopes of attending a PhD program this year is diminishing. :(
  5. I am wondering if people have heard from George Washington Univ? Haven't seen any decisions here or on gradcafe. That's kind of my last hope.
  6. I also have an offer from UO and am waiting for the funding decision. I am an international student and wanted to know, visa and other technical issues apart, how good are the prospects for my wife to get a job in Eugene. She is into quant analysis in the development sector.
  7. Institution: Rutgers Program: PhD Economics Decision: Accepted Funding: No. They have only 4 fellowships and do not offer TA or RA positions in year 1 . Notification date: 3/07/2014 Notified through: Email Posted on GC? Yes Comments: If I had known about their stupid funding policy earlier, I wouldn't have applied. Institution: Boston College Program: PhD Economics Decision: Rejected Funding: N/A Notification date: 3/14/2014 Notified through: Snail mail Posted on GC? Not yet. Comments: The two rejection letters (BC and USC) came together. Quite an exciting way to start my Friday evening. Institution: USC Program: PhD Economics Decision: Rejected Funding: N/A Notification date: 3/14/2014 Notified through: Snail mail Posted on GC? Not yet. Comments: Same as above
  8. I got an unfunded offer. That's as good as rejected. I talked to a Prof. there and he told there were only four fellowships and the university does not offer TA or RA in the first year.
  9. Got an unfunded offer from Rutgers. Is funding an issue with Rutgers this year? But this is effectively a rejection for me. My hopes of starting a PhD this year are getting dim with every such result and rejections. Just a few more to go (sweating profusely!).
  10. Good post? http://www.www.urch.com/forums/images/buttons/ha_plus.png | http://www.www.urch.com/forums/images/buttons/ha_minus.png Institution: JHU Program: Economics PhD Decision: Rejected Funding: N/A Notification Date: 3/5/14 Notified through: Email Posted on GC: No Comment: I fear there is some serious lacuna in my profile (and/or letters). I had a very positive response from a faculty member in JHU on my ("very promising") research ideas. Disappointed :(
  11. Any prediction on when JHU results are going to come? Not that I have much hope left after implicit rejections from Cornell and UMD.
  12. Suddenly we are all hating weekends. Ain't we?
  13. Institution: UCSC Program: PhD Economics Decision: Rejected Funding: N/A Notification date: 02/25/14 Notified through: email Posted on GC: No Comments: Surprised and wondering how bad a sign this is. I was hopeful abt an admit at this place. :(
  14. Institution: U Oregon Program: Economics PhD Decision: Accepted Funding: Decision will be taken in March Notification date: 02/24/14 Notified through: Email Posted on GC: Yes Comments: Although a safety (and no funding decision yet), myfirst result and it is positive!
  15. I tend to think ISID has better record in placing students in US programs. If you also think so, then go for ISID. As far as math is concerned, at both the places you will learn more than what is required for entering into a good grad program.
  16. Yes, I have applied to Bonn, Frankfurt and Bocconi as well. I am a non-european, non-american candidate and am not too sure if the European programs are that open for us. Bonn is top in my list but their results come out the last.
  17. I got a mail saying that I will be considered again in the second round and that I am not offered anything as of now. This is my first reply from any univ I have applied to.. Not a very encouraging response. :(
  18. How much does a message like this from an Assistant Prof (but a very well known and active researcher) in a university would mean for my chances? "....I think that your research plans are very promising. I am not in the PhD admissions committee this year, but I am forwarding your message to them." Seeing some results from UCSC and Vandy in the forum, I am already sweating! I haven't heard yet from any university I applied to. Congrats to people who have got admits already and best wishes to others.
  19. Zweistein, that was very useful information. Can you also tell us about the Econ Phd? How good it is and how good are the placements compared to German - Italian PhD progs (say Bonn, Frankfurt, Manneheim, Bocconi etc)? How international is the PhD prog (esp for non-eu students)?
  20. I wrote to most of the Universities I am applying to, asking whether they consider the best sectional scores if I send them more than 1 score - almost all replied with a yes! So, if you are in any doubt you can send both.
  21. Yeah, I tend to think so too. AWA was the last thing, I thought, I would be worrying about.
  22. I am a non -native. Which score to send? Should I send both the scores also considering my higher Verbal in I ? Score I: 161 Quant, 162 Verbal, 4 AWA Score II: 165 Quant, 158 Verbal, 3.5 AWA A quick reply will be highly appreciated. Thanks
