  1. It looks like you will be a shoe in for PhD programs in education. They are not ultra competitive as with business. Just my thoughts.
  2. Hi Y'all, Can anyone shed some light onto the following programs on how competitive their programs are? This is for their (OB/HR & Strategic Management) programs 1. Florida International University 2. Florida State University 3. Drexel University 4. University of Miami 5. University of North Texas What rank would you give based on 'your' knowledge of the program like 1-100? What are your experiences with them if any, like have you met students from these universities in presentations or paper reviews etc. Thanks a lot.
  3. Bowen, yes you need to be specific. For example, if I give you a statement like: To be successful one has to have a college degree. You have to pick a side, give merits to one school of thought and then state within that example if you agree or disagree with it. Be coherent and to the point. Don't go off on a tangent. Also, I think people get too held up with using GRE words and they mostly use it in the wrong context as illustrated by your essay. I would rather you write with good structure and good examples and get a 4 or 4.5 rather than use words that don't really fit the picture. Hope that helps!
  4. I would rate this a 3-3.5! You have good structure but your essay is very verbose. Because it is verbose, I bet you were limited with time and hence could only give 2 examples. A 4 and over will have at least 3 examples. (some may disagree). Beyond that, your first example is lengthy and doesn't get to the point. Plagiarism was a bad example to give. It can never and will never have a positive response. You could have given another better example. i.e. constructive criticism, pro athlete, lebron james etc.
  5. What was your profile like? I plan on applying there next year.
  6. What is your profile like, if you don't mind me asking? :) Or you can link me to your profile if you had posted on the Evaluation Profile thread.
  7. Hi Arctic, So I took your advice and enrolled for information sessions at various local universities that are coming in March. The info sessions are however for MBA programs as they don't have any kind of PhD sessions which I am assuming they don't do. Is this a good way to get in touch with people who are looking for PhD researchers? I just want to make sure that I am going through the right channels.
  8. Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, I moved out of state from where I did my MBA for a job opportunity. Do you think if I contact universities here where I live, will professors entertain me? I just don't know how I can approach professors and what would I even write?
  9. Hey guys, I have a quick question. How does one get an RA position or some research experience or even co-author a research paper when out of school? I am really trying hard to get some research experience behind me before applying for a PhD in 2017. I already have a masters degree so going for another Masters will not be an option. Any inputs welcome.
  10. May I ask what your Masters GPA and GMAT score was? I hope it is not rude of me asking.
  11. Thank you all for all the insights. All of your posts certainly makes sense about being anonymous. :) You guys are cool. I am glad I found this forum
  12. Thank you for your posts, sb29 and YaSvoboden!. It seems that would be the general consensus :) I was just very curious to know what you guys thought but that answers my questions :D Btw, is it bad over here to ask which universities you guys currently go to? I've seen that nobody refers that.
  13. Are the first 2 years harder than the next 3-4 years doing research and preparing your dissertation? Some people suggest that the first 2 years are more like a Graduate Program completing exams and classes and the rest is kind of preparing your dissertation and research which is much harder. I was just curios about your experiences.
  14. Thank you so much for your insight. I think I would rather study much harder to get atleast a 650-690 range. I know myself I do not think I can ever cross the 700. But this gives me hopes. I do have a couple of professor who i have worked for but didnt do research for them, just general help as i was a Graduate Assistant. They told me they would recommend me to the adcoms there. Which may put my inital app through. :)
  15. Thanks Daffodil. It seems that the link in his signature does not work anymore. I mean are the people who have a low GMAT score admitted because they have an exceptional profile beside the poor GMAT score(Or got a friend or professor who works there)? I just dont want to get dinged based on the first look at my GMAT score and then having to re-apply next year to the same school with a better GMAT score. It would look real silly applying in the first place. Have you heard of people getting in with low score to like 90-100 PhD schools?
