  1. Yep, received email notification to check website! At least I have somewhere to go now :')
  2. I saw on gradcafe that someone had their interview with Booth Behavioral Science last week already and decisions would be rolling out this week/next week.
  3. New post on GradCafe saying Caltech is sending out offers already... Doesn't seem like a troll post?
  4. Guess I didn’t even get into the interview round then... Damn BPP was my dream program :(
  5. And no one’s heard from Berkeley Haas BBP yet? I’m starting to get worried :(
  6. Can I ask what your last name starts with? I haven't received any emails regarding waitlist/acceptance but my decision letter hasn't shown up on my portal yet - I figure they are doing it in alphabetical order? (My last name starts with W) Edit: nvm - it showed up seconds later!
  7. idk about the acceptance but the BusEcon interview could be real... I know someone who got in last year and was interviewed around the same time.
  8. For Ag. Econ people, my friend received an interview offer early last week from Cornell AEM!
  9. For those of you who are also applying to business econ programs - has anyone heard from Berkeley Haas BPP, Chicago Booth Behavioral Science, UCSD Rady, Michigan Ross or NYU Stern?
  10. Has anyone heard from Haas (BPP), Booth (Behavioral Science), Stern (Business Econ) or UCSD Rady?
  11. Thanks for the responses! OP here. I did end up re-taking Linear Algebra and did very well in the course (A+), even though I am not sure to what extent that would make up for my previous B-. Chateauheart was right - I have far from flawless recommendation letters. My faculty has a consistent record of placing students into Top 15 programs, but very rarely Top 5 ones, and my other letter writers are pretty well-known but I doubt the letters would be considered very strong. I was also wondering what universities would be considered “target schools”. Is it based more on the undergrad ranking or the grad Econ ranking of my undergrad institution, and what would be a cutoff? Thanks!
  12. Thanks! I actually did take real analysis the following semester and got an A. Should I just go ahead and retake Linear Algebra then? Are there any other undergraduate classes that I should take (eg. analysis 2) or should I get ahead and take a graduate economics class in the spring? Thanks again!
  13. Hi, I didn’t do well in my undergraduate Linear Algebra II class and got a B- - mainly because I bombed my final exam. Anyways, I just graduated and am now working as an RA, and have the opportunity to take post-bacc classes at a local university (different form the university I attended). Should I retake Linear Algebra, or should I just leave it and take other classes like stochastic processes or the statistics version of Linear regressions? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! :)
  14. Thanks a lot for the advice! I go to a Top 20 public university(yes... there's only one) and despite the great econ department I'm honestly not sure how prestigious it is considered to be on an undergraduate level. A lot of people say that there is heavy grade deflation at my school but again many universities claim to suffer from that so I'm honestly not really sure. Anyways thank you for your advice :) I will definitely focus a lot more on my grades this semester.
  15. So last semester I took linear algebra II and ended up getting a B-. Long story short, I did fairly well on my two midterms (A-) and quizzes, but due to the stress and pulling an all-nighter before the exam I did very badly on my final and was below average. After the final curve I somehow ended up at a B-. This grade is non-disputable and I am stuck with it. I was wondering how much this would impact my application. I now have a 3.8 gpa (down from a 3.87) due to this course. The grades in my other courses are as follows: Math Courses: Calc II (B- freshman year first semester), Calc III (A), Linear Algebra and Differential Equations (A+), Intro to Probability (A), Probability Thoery (A), Linear Algebra II (B-), Numerical Analysis (A-) Econ Courses: Intro to Econ (A), Intermediate Micro(A), Intermediate Macro(A), Econometrics (A), International Trade (A-), Senior Research Seminar (A-), Financial Economics (A), Intermediate Financial Theory (A+), Behavioral Economics (A+) I am taking Real Analysis, Concepts of Statistics and Applied Econometrics this semester. Assuming that I don't mess up again and obtain A's in all of them, would the B- in Linear Algebra II still have a large negative impact on my application (keep me out of getting into anything Top10)? I will be working a 2-year full-time RA job at a Top 10 university and will be applying Fall 2019. Any help or advice is much appreciated. Thanks!
  16. Thank you! I talked to a professor and he also suggested that I forget about the graduate math preparatory course and take Linear Algebra 2, Real Analysis and another upper-div math course. I'll look into full-time RAship options - I know about the NBER list, but are there any other sources to find information about RAship openings? I'm an international student so Fed isn't really an option for me. I know this is a lot of questions... Thank you so much for your help!
  17. Oh and I took the GRE today and got 166V and 168Q... I assume this would be enough?
  18. Thanks for your advice! I actually found out that I can't take the grad micro sequence without real analysis/the grad math preparory course. I can't fit analysis into my fall schedule since the waitlist is already full. Another option I have is to take the grad math prepatory course for the Econ phd program, but I heard the class is the hardest math camp among top phd programs so I'm not sure at all if I'll do well. Without analysis, would my chance at Top 20 be slim? I could also either... 1. Take analysis in spring 2018 and apply next fall 2. Go to a masters program/ do full-time research for a year or 2 Which of these would be more advisable? If I'm aiming for top 15, currently with my profile I'm assuming I pretty much have no chance at all? Thanks a lot!
  19. Hello all! I've only recently (junior year second semester) decided to do PhD so I ended up having to rush all my math courses. Now I'm not really sure what range I should be shooting for :( Here's my profile: PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: Top 20 US News Public University, Top 10 Econ department, Econ Major Undergrad GPA: 3.87/4.00 Type of Grad: N/A Grad GPA: N/A GRE: Q 166, V 169, AWA 5.5 - will be retaking this to score at least 168 in Q Math Courses: Calc II (B- freshman year first semester), Calc III (A), Linear Algebra and Differential Equations (A+), Intro to Probability (A), Probability Thoery (A) Econ Courses: Intro to Econ (A), Intermediate Micro(A), Intermediate Macro(A), Econometrics (A), International Trade (A-), Senior Research Seminar (A-), Financial Economics (A), Intermediate Financial Theory (A+), will be taking grad-level Econ Theory and writing honors thesis this fall Other Courses: A bunch of philosophy courses, not worth mentioning Letters of Recommendation: 1. Professor I've been RAing for a year, Harvard PhD, should be decent 2. Honor's Thesis Advisor, RePEc top 5%, should be great 3. Professor I've taken financial economics with and will take another class with next semester, should be standard Research Experience: Research paper for the research seminar Undergraduate Honors Thesis RA for a professor for a year RA for a PhD student Teaching Experience: Will be teaching at the student learning center as an Econ tutor next semester Research Interests: Financial Economics, Macroeconomics SOP: Concerns:I started kind of late so I don't have too many math courses, couldn't really fit real analysis into my schedule, not enough research experience...? Weak application in general I feel Do I have a chance at Top 20/30 programs? I'm kind of clueless right now and am not exactly sure what range of schools I should be shooting for. Any advice or comments will be much appreciated and thanks a lot in advance :D !!
