  1. that's a good advice! I was just wondering if I am missing anything before replying the director about transferring credits.
  2. thanks for your comments. my concern of transferring credits is that.. if I transfer 9 credits of core courses (micro, macro, econometrics), I would only be able to audit them at the new program. But at the same time, I guess I should enroll in other 9 credits to stay as a regular full-time student. Then the first semester would be like auditing 3 courses and taking other 3 courses, only making me much busier. Now I'm really confused what are the advantages, if any, of transferring credits, especially in economics where all normal incoming students take the same classes and to take the qualifying exam.

  4. Hi all, While I'm doing a master, I've taken several Ph.D. courses - micro, macro, and econometrics. The director of the program that I'm gonna do the Ph.D. from this fall suggested that they may allow me to transfer some credits (up to 9) in Ph.D. courses but I was not sure what would be the pros and cons. I expect that I may save some time of doing the coursework but the fact is that I have to take their qualifying exam, which means that it would be absolutely better to take their micro, macro, and econometrics to prepare. What do you guys think of transferring credits? any idea/advice would be greatly appreciated!
  5. Have Colorado Boulder and Iowa State started to send out decisions? I wonder when they will..
  6. thanks for your reply. Actually, I asked the director about the visit days in the reply to his unofficial offer. But have not heard back from him for more than a week so I was a little bit hesitating to ask again. I can drive there so no need to hurry but I may ask him again tomorrow. or do you think it would be better to ask the administrative coordinator instead of the director (professor)?
  7. Not UPenn but I got an unofficial funding offer from one of my top choices and I wonder whether I can email them about attending the visit day even tho I have not received any official admission/ invitation to the visit.
  8. I just got curious what an amazing letter from UCSB looks like cause I got a rejection letter :distracted:
  9. Thank you guys for your comments and advice!
  10. thanks for your advice. as you said, I guess that reading books and articles is the thing. I was just hoping to read the right (in terms of what I'm gonna have for the first year) ones.
  11. to mrmac3, that program must be super careful. yeah I also bet that MWG will appear but you know that one is huuuuuge so I wanted to have an idea which part they cover in micro 1 and micro 2 etc. anyway thanks for your comment!
  12. Hello guys, almost everyone advised me to fully enjoy the summer before PhD and I'm going to do that of course, but at the same time, I'm quite worried about what's gonna come in several months. Are you guys really going to have fun and relax in this summer? I want at least look into the syllabi of the first year core courses and get an idea but I can't find them on the department website :proud: I can only browse their course schedule and see who is teaching what.. So I guess I should email to a random PhD student and ask for the syllabus..? or would there be another option for me to get to know which textbooks are normally used there etc?
  13. I just meant development track. Cornell has several field tracks and development track is quite big with many professors. The location also seems to dominate the other ones as you can reach nyc in 4 hours. You may thoroughly compare the placements and professors of your interest to make a choice. Personally, I would narrow down the options to Cornell and UW as they are considered better than MSU.
