    Villainy of ETS

Ouchies. I had the same thing happen to me with my GMAT scores. The official score report only reached me last week and it took three emails before they sent the report. Be sure to call them and send them an email. I think you can always tell them you'll dispute the transaction if your scores don't reach your schools soon. Cc a copy of the message to yourself. That way you'll have a paper trail to back up your case. Also, do check in with the admissions office, and explain your situation. Best of luck.
  2. Congratulations on the terrific score, GmatGuyIL! 670 is a great score for any school ! You may want to get Montauk's "How To Get Into The Top MBA Programs" book for insight into the application and essay writing process... I found the book an invaluable guide for my B-school interviews. I'm helping my hubby prep for his GMAT and he's using the book to research various B-school programs. Good luck with the rest of your application process! :)
  3. Congratulations, fighter! Great Quant score! You were a great help when I was prepping for my GMAT. All the best for your application process! :)
  4. Congratulations, Spiderman! All the best for ISB!
  5. Mo, I attribute TM to my improved Quant score. Posting my questions on the PS and DS sections helped me immensely. I went through a lot of the older posts from pages 5-33 (in PS) and pp. 8-24 in DS. Shaq, Spidey, Bull and the others have posted quick methods of finding answers to most Quant questions. I strongly recommend trying to solve the questions yourself before scrolling down for the answer. I also believe that taking the test once helped calm me down this time round. I'm usually pretty good at Quant but I tend to freeze during tests. The last time I took the test I froze mid-way through the Quant when I kept getting hit with difficult questions. Keeping your cool and taking as many timed tests as you can helps. I cannot stress this enough. Each time you practice, try to finish 15 questions in 25 minutes or less (including double checking the answers). Be very strict with yourself and it will pay off on test day. I went through all of the DS questions in the Official Guide twice (that's the one area I had the most trouble with), signed up for Delta Course's Probability course and went through all the Standard Deviation and Range questions on this forum. Also, if you're unclear about a particular concept, try searching for it on Google or on math websites like sparknotes or purplemath.com. Finding this information for yourself will help concretize the concept for you. One note on Probability: If you understand the reasoning behind most of the prob questions on this site, you're set. :) All the best for your GMAT. I will be around to help with Quant and Verbal in about a week or so.
  6. Congratulations!! That's an awesome score :)
  7. The organization I volunteer for is helping with tsunami relief efforts as well. Of course, some of the schools we sponsor have been hit so it's kind of personal. :( So far we've managed to collect $7000. Volunteers will be leaving for the affected countries to assist in relief efforts. I hope everything works out for the best. http://www.ashanet.org/index.php?page=tsunami-relief

    Hi!

Welcome, Jim. All the best for your GMAT! Like Adonis said: We hope people will come along and the end the spell of 680's we've been getting on the boards recently :)
  9. Alrighty then Sargataur...No hard feelings...I apologize for snapping at you...I must've misinterpreted what you said. :)
  10. I took the exam remember? I've only provided a break-up of the kinds of questions that were asked just like a lot of other people have done. Sargataur, I think it's mean spirited of you to imply otherwise.
  11. Breakup of questions: Quant Standard Deviation: 4 Probability, permu and combinations: 4 Inequality DS: 5 Ratio: 1 Distance DS: 2 One really tough Geometric Progression DS 1 really simple Geometry DS Verbal Tons of SC questions (not sure of the number but they outnumbered the CRs) A couple assumption CRs 2 tough natural science RC's back to back (Questions 9 - 16 and Question 17-19) -- the first one was 100 lines -- I have never seen that on any test 2 business related RCs -- (by this point I was too exhausted to care) Just wanted to finish on time 1 boldface CR (question 41)
  12. This coming from a man named after a system installed in telescopes ;) :p http://www.www.urch.com/forums/showpost.php?p=92651&postcount=1281
  13. A quick note on my prep and the GMAT : Took my first GMAT in October with less than a month's prep. My less than stellar scores indicate how ill prepared I was for the real test. I panicked in Quant when I got a whole bunch of increasingly tough questions and as a result saw my score slip down the proverbial drain. (It's true what a lot of folks say -- you're a lot relaxed the second time round.) I discovered TM on the eve of my first test and I have been hanging around these forums since November. Here's what I used for the prep Official Guide 10th Edition -- really great for DS, CR, SC Kaplan GRE GMAT Math Review Kaplan 800 -- really terrific for the DS, SC and Critical Reasoning LSAT tests -- excellent CR resource -- helped me with my Verbal score the first time Kaplan CAT tests 800 Score tests Delta Course Probability Veritas prep books (on loaner from a friend) -- The questions are mostly culled from the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] and the LSAT books -- not very helpful since I had covered the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip]. Test Magic - PS and DS forums I prepped for nearly two months this time and solely focused on Quant. I find it helps to participate on the Math Forums -- even if you're unsure of your answer. You invariably learn to avoid making the silly mistakes you have been making in the first place and learn a whole set of new approaches to solving a problem. In the course of my prep I filled a notebook with tons of little tips I had picked up from TM and from practice tests -- mostly pointers like "watch out for EXCEPT in CR", "do not assume x and y are integers unless the question stem specifically states so". I highly recommend Ursula's RC tips (in the RC section of this site). THE GMAT I arrived at the test center in the afternoon (I'm not a morning person at all so the timing really worked to my advantage) After checking in, I spent a couple minutes setting up a timeline for the questions to let me know what question to be on at any given time. I can't take credit for this -- it was suggested by a previous test taker (I'll try and dig up the post if I can) AWA was fairly easy. I spent the break trying to compose myself for the Quant section which was gruelling. I got a ton of Standard Deviation, Probability(fairly easy ones) and Inequality DS questions. Verbal started out with four SC's. I'm usually good at SC's so I breezed through the questions. The test then hit me with two really tough Natural Science RC's, followed by alternating CR and SC questions, 2 more RC's and finally a boldface CR question. I felt a little fatigued around question 24 or so, so I can't vouch for my answers beyond that point. I just wanted to get the section over with as quickly as possible. I clicked through the interminable survey at the end of the test and was mildly surprised when I saw my score. I was aiming for a 700+ and I'm sure I could have cracked it if I hadn't let my Verbal performance become affected by exhaustion. Like I said before, I don't want to make excuses. I'm too drained to ever take the test again. I shall let my AWA scores speak for my dismal Verbal score. That's it for a quick recaplet. I shall be happy to answer any questions that you might have. I will be busy for a week or so since I have 14 essays to write in less than 5 days (there goes the New Year!) :) All the best to everyone who plans to take the test soon. :)
  14. Hey! Don't blame yourself. I was too tired to concentrate on the Verbal. I was pretty sure of making it past 40 on Verbal but in the end my laziness got the better of me. The Quant was very draining though. Phew.
  15. Mohican, I don't see any forseeable advantage or disadvantage to applying in Rounds 1,2 or 3. On campus housing is certainly a lot easier to get if you were to apply in Rounds 1 or 2. I think it is advantageous for an international applicant to apply early to avoid potential problems with the student visa. I'm not an admissions officer so please take my recommendations with a grain of salt. Your best bet would be to contact the admissions office of the schools you plan to apply to and ask them yourself. Good luck :)
  16. It's a little bittersweet for me seeing how my verbal score has fallen so far below my first attempt (V40) but I'm happy that I've got the GMAT behind me. My Quant score improved dramatically from Q33 to Q48 and it's all thanks to this wonderful forum and the kind thoughtful people who helped me achieve this score. Special mentions: The Bullfighter (you absolutely rock! Best of luck with your GMAT. I'm sure you'll do very well) FZAnjani, Spiderman, Ashokkkannan, GmatGnat -- thanks for all the Math Help Gmat168 (you're just fabulous at CR!) Many thanks to Champ, Shaq, Fighter, Araspee, Giomar, Adonis, Gagan_Ait, KillBill and Scorer. Erin, thanks for this wonderful forum and for all your SC help. I hope I haven't missed anyone. :) I'm really cutting it close to the application deadlines so I won't be popping in as often as I used to (for about a week or two). I plan to be around and help other folk with their GMAT prep for a long time to come.
  17. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the people affected by this catastrophe. :( The worst part is it's not over yet. I hope and pray that things work out for everyone involved.
  18. I had the same thing happen to me yesterday -- perhaps the servers were down? Or it could be an IIS error... dunno "misbehaved":p hehe those error writers sure have some sense of humor
  19. unfortunately, unanswered questions count against your score. it's to your advantage to answer all the questions even if you have to guess on the last few Qs
  20. Scarletletter, my verbal score was much higher than my Quant and I scored over 600. So don't worry too much about it. It can be done :) Good luck.
  21. luwei, a living will is often made years in advance just in case such an event were to happen
