    You should drop Texas A&M off your list, they have no environmental people there. Purdue is also not strong in environmental. You should read up on these schools because many you list aren't going to be very interested in an environmental candidate. I would suggest adding University of Houston, which is strong in environmental.

    When I was applying to programs there were a few lower ranked places which listed only Cal1 as a requirement. The University of New Mexico was one that I remember off the top of my head.

    Thanks! Definately a relief. I have heard from 2 schools. Early acceptance at one with funding, and contacted by another for a fellowship nomination (not officially accepted yet). The early acceptance was one of 2 top choices so I accepted. I honestly feel silly for applying to so many programs now (22). For those interested, my concern was gre scores. The school I got into had a mean gre quant of 163, I got in with a 157, so it is possible.

    While not the highest ranked, think around top 50-60, the program is strong in my field of interest and has great faculty. Plus, the funding is better than other higher ranked programs.

    Just a quick update. Got an early official acceptance from one of my top choices, with funding!

    Thanks for the feedback. Will take as a good sign but not as a for sure just yet. I did look up the fellowship info and looks like they release results in early Feb so shouldn't have to wait long. This is the school where my honors thesis research advisor got his PhD so was likely my best chance. @pulsars, I can send you a pm on the school but wouldn't sweat it yet. I applied to 20 different programs (all different ranges but mostly top 30-100) and this is the first email I've received. Still very early in the admissions cycle.

    I was notified of being nominated for a fellowship, but not officially accepted yet. Does this mean very likely to get in or could go either way?

Concerns: GRE quant score is a problem. I do well in math classes but found the timing on the GRE difficult and didn't feel a retake would have helped score any. Applying to: I understand the competitiveness of these programs and realize the GRE will likely screen me out of some programs. Applying to a wide range of schools.
