  1. It probably won't be a huge deal if you don't score too well on Verbal since most people in engineering don't score too well anyways, but a good score certainly won't hurt ;)
  2. Hmm, two days left. I'd take those ETS practice tests and grab a practice reading comprehension book as soon as possible. You could probably make up a good number of points with some experience. Make sure you learn why you missed a question. That's far more important than the number you're answering correctly.
  3. Um, it looks like the tutor tests aren't so good. It seems to be the consensus that Kaplan tests are a little more difficult than the real thing, but not by that much.

    GRE vs SAT?

    Yeah, pretty much.
  5. You should definitely have "Taking the GRE" from ETS because it has practice tests that you'll want to use periodically during your preparation.
  6. That just be one of the most ridiculous things ever said about the GRE. Most graduate students are nerds. That's why I'm, er, I mean they're in graduate school in the first place.
  7. A 200+ increase is possible. Whether it's possible for you completely depends on how effectively you can study. My short advice: If the vocabulary isn't sticking, then try studying fewer words at a time. Start it off easy with 10 words a day. Try to commit them to memory every night, or even better, take 10 flashcards to work with you, put them on your desk, and whenever you get the chance, study them. With math, that's all about practice. Again, start off easy. Do a practice math section per night. Don't stop there though. Correct it, know EXACTLY why you got certain questions wrong. Was it a careless mistake? Be more careful tomorrow. Did you not know how to solve the problem at all? Find out how. As days go on, stay consistent. You'll find that you become more efficient and studying becomes a bit easier. When it gets easy, up your efforts. Study more words per day. Do more math sections at night. Good luck.
  8. Have you gone through the PowerPrep tests yet? If not, you should go for those since they're exactly the type of problems you're going to see on the test.
  9. This isn't really a game, but here's some online flashcards.
  10. um, perhaps these flashcards will be helpful as well... Vocabulary Flashcards | GIANTWords
  11. Uh wow, I've never heard that one before. Yeah, I think cerwesie is right since at the end of the test you decide whether you want to send your scores or not. You didn't take the test... so no scores will be sent, but yeah, you've lost some money.
  12. Two months is ample time to improve your verbal score. Whether it's enough time really depends on you -- how much you need to improve, how much you study per day, how effectively you study, etc. I think the key though is to keep a steady pace. Set some time aside every day to study, because cramming won't work.
  13. GRE Test Format - Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) The gist of it is that it depends on what questions you answer incorrectly. If you missed a lot of low difficulty questions in a row, then your score will suffer more than if you were to miss a lot of high difficulty questions in a row.
  14. absolutely. as much as you want. they also give you a pencil.
  15. no problem. i'm glad it helps!
  16. For practice questions, I'm not sure, but for reading material, The New York Times is a good source.
  17. definitely powerprep. it's just like the real thing.
  18. btw, any feedback would be great!
  19. Hi all I just put up vocabulary flashcards online at GIANTwords. I tried to make the everything as simple as possible and super easy to use. I hope you find it helpful.

    Reading comprehension

As with most things, practice, practice, practice. Do practice RC's from books like Kaplan and practice reading from sources like The New York Times.
  21. Well, that depends on what field you're entering.
  22. powerprep is just like the real thing, so yeah, the length of the RC passages are going to be quite similar.
