Really lost as to how to outline my SOP. How much should I talk about courses, research, etc. if they're already on my CV? How much of a "personal story," if at all, should I be telling? Name dropping specific faculty I'd like to work with?

There are plenty of resources out there on applying for the NSF in other fields (sample proposals and stuff), but haven't found many in Economics. Do any of the community members here have suggestions for applying for the fellowship, particularly the personal statement piece of the app? One of the things I've been told to emphasize is the 'Broader Impacts' of the project that go beyond the field of economics itself and into interaction with people in everyday life (so something beyond "this model has implications for policy"). If I'm writing a proposal where I present a specific model with a specific application, how would I write about something like that?

I've heard from seeing posts on GC that it looks like there were 2 different funding offers at berkeley, one with the 8k first year and TA-ship onwards, and one that was ~30k a year. Does anyone have more specific details on the ~30k a year stipend amount? I'm thinking about trying to bargain with them.

Guys, as finishing up my sop, I find this "why school" question a tough one. I read the post "Mentioning professors in SOP good/bad/neutral?" by TaxGal, and seems like it's a neutral for this question. I used to think the strongest reason for why school is the specific faculty you wanna work with. However, if it's just neutral to put specific faculty research here, what would be some good answers for "why school"?
