  1. A, if the Prof is still doing research and will give you meaningful work that they can evaluate and write about in your LOR.
  2. I would take linear algebra and real analysis for the credentials, though honesty not much of either is used in depth in RM research.
  3. We have a CB student at Rice who did an undergrad in English + masters in education. Depending on your MBA program, the stats preparation there should be enough for your stats/psychometrics classes as a CB.
  4. I think the OR/OM track would be good if you want to do theory type research. It's generally strongly encouraged in both fields and most top journals publish majority theory papers (unlike most other business disciplines). Empirical asset pricing as someone mentioned could be an option if you also like to test theory. However, if you don't really have specific interests in finance, I'm not sure going to finance is a good idea. OR is much more closely tied to phenomena you can easily observe and thus you might find this research more interesting. This might be a personal bias, but this is the way I felt having sat through finance seminars and talked extensively with my classmates in finance. On the other hand, you make a lot more money in finance.
  5. Anybody here have any idea what business faculty salaries are in Europe?
  6. UG gpa is a bit low, is that due to conversion from international grading system? Grad GPA could also be considered on the low side, was this a financial engineering/quant heavy masters? I would also talk to your rec writers, maybe they didn't give you the best rec.
  7. There were a few programs I never heard back from, shoot them an email, they should tell you.
  8. But if you need to take more classes, dynamic programming would be good, a good substitute would be macro.
  9. First year sequence of micro math and metrics should be plenty, I'd focus more on getting acquainted with the marketing literature.
  10. If you can score significantly better on the GMAT, you should reapply
  11. The fact that most people, business PhDs and applicants at that, don't know of its existence should be telling.
  12. Your spouse has to be happy for the next 5 years, go with school B.
  13. Having been through this 2 years ago, I'd caution anyone from withdrawing too hastily. I ended up going to a program that is lower ranked than an earlier accept, I changed mind about the program during the flyout.
  14. I would caution against rescinding an acceptance...if that is a planned course of action, I'd try to negotiate a later deadline, if they don't agree, take the offer, but remind them of the 4/15 rule for binding agreements. Make sure everything is clear up front. The academic world is small, I would try to minimize the likelihood of making a bad impression.
