  1. I have friends in both the schools, and I know pros and cons of both of schools. I cannot go into details over here, but I will say that if you want to discuss this in detail, pm me.
  2. Congratulations on the offers! I will suggest that take time to think over. Schools also want you to do that. Get requisite information about programs. Only if you think that you are not going to join a program for sure, then you let the programs know that you have dominating offers. Speak to PhD students at schools, and people over here. After you are convinced about a school, make a decision.
  3. Do not worry guys. I am sure you will start hearing news about interviews in a couple of weeks.
  4. I think you have a great profile for accounting programs. Most of the candidates focus on financial archival, so I will assume that you also be applying to one of those programs. Apart from the schools mentioned by other people. I will suggest applying to Berkeley, Rochester, Iowa, Washington Seattle, Yale. I have a background very close to you, and I am currently working on financial archival. Theory might interest you as well. I will suggest not writing the name of any professor in PS. I did not write about anyone, and my statement of purpose was very generic. In the end I had offers from 6 top schools. I would have dropped supervisor in China. Read papers. Form an idea regarding research. Get good TOEFL scores. Thanks in advance!
  5. As everyone else mentioned, GMAT is the weakest link in your profile. Please work on that.
  6. I agree with other posters, that you might want to improve your GMAT. Also, getting good recommendation letters is the key. In US, people might not know about the reputation of your school if you are an international student. In that case, a good recommendation letter can have even an increased importance.
  7. Your profile sounds good. But again, it's little difficult to say what schools you should be applying for without understanding the reputation of the schools you attended in the past. Also, I think, reputation of recommendation letter writers can make a great difference.
  8. UT Dallas has already sent out their interview invites. For me, Seattle scheduled an interview very early last year. If they haven't sent an interview invite yet, I will be very surprised.
  9. I agree with whatever has been said by taxPhD and YaSvoboden. My personal view is that you have a good chance of getting into top 25. It depends a lot of your letter writers, and your research preparedness.
  10. Hi bubblegum, congratulations on your offers! I think it depends upon your research and culture fit. However, if I were in your shoes my choices would have been: 1. Wharton 2. MIT 3. Stanford 4. UNC 5. Michigan 6. Chicago 7. Berkeley Good luck for your future!
  11. Hey guys, I have offers from two schools and those schools have invited me on PhD student day. Most likely I will go to a 3rd school which has given me a flyout for an in-person interview, however the final result from school 3 is going to be out after the student PhD day for school 1 and school 2. I am not very sure which school I will go to among school 1 and school 2, and hence school visit would help me to understand the best choice to make. Do schools take visit as a confirmation from students that they are going to accept the offer? I don't want to waste school resources on me, and give them a false hope that I am willing to accept their offer. However, I am not sure if I will get an offer from school 3. This makes the decision to fly out to school 1 and school 2 much difficult. Looking for your suggestions. Regards hummingbird
  12. Hey 2015PhDAcct, I also have offers from Rochester and Northwestern. Yes, we can talk about those programs. We can have a skype chat.
  13. Given that I am getting flied out to New York, can I send an email to another school (which had interviewed me earlier, not contact after that) stating that I am flying out and it would be great if they would like me to visit their school as well (?). Not sure how to exactly phrase this thing.
  14. Thanks PhDPleaase for such information!
  15. Hi all, Thanks for the suggestions! I will bring my heaviest clothes. Thanks for the reminder! List updated! I learnt sewing on my own when I was 11 years old and my mother was very happy that I am doing some chores at least other than studying and playing!
  16. Hey guys, I am flying out to New York. I have created a list. Any specific suggestions what I should be carrying with myself? I am an Asian, and flying to usa for the first time. Will it be too cold in New York during first week of March? Thanks. Regard Current list: Shirt, Jeans, Shoes, Handkerchief Coat Tie Overcoat (cold?) Pen International Simcard Currency Shaving Kit Visa + Passport
  17. http://www.www.urch.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=7010&stc=1 Here is one which I love!
  18. Thanks for your suggestions Xan and YaSvoboden. A new update here. I also got an offer for flyout from another school. So money problem got sorted. However, there are other issues. However, there are a heck lot of logistic problems which discourage me from visiting the schools. Can I cite some reasons for not being able to go to schools? Will it be considered against me? Can my chances of acceptance to those schools decrease? Thanks.
  19. Hey guys, A school has invited me for a flyout and I am super excited about it. However, I am only partial funded. Given that I am an international applicant, the extra expenses which I will bear is going to be a lot for my wallet! I hear that most of the time, international applicants pool together the funds from various schools to cover their expenses. Problem is that currently I have fly out only from one school. I have been interviewed by 6 other schools, and yet to receive any information on my candidacy from them. Can I send an email to those schools politely stating that I am visiting school X on date Y. Given that I am visiting USA, if I am in the consideration and the school would like me to flyout to their school, it would be great if they can let me know. Does it make sense, or do I come across as a rude person? I hope that I am not obliged to accept an offer from a school after flyout. School X asked me and I told them very politely that the school is one of my top choices, however, there are few other schools who are also in my top choices, and if I get offers from them, then it would be a difficult choice for me to make. Thanks for your responses in advance. Regards Hummingbird
  20. Very nice question and thoughts XanthusARES! I am going to join a PhD porgram this fall. Given that rent to house value percentage is very high in US, I am also pondering over the same. However, given that I am an international applicant, I am not sure if I will be able to get a loan. Though, I hear some schools do provide loan, I am not sure about the rates and the maximum principal amount. Not sure if the banks will provide loan. Looking forward to your replies. Thanks.
