  1. Hey, I was told by an actual student that they send the list of other students by the end of May, unfortunately I have no idea when they'll contact us for administrative stuff, I'm guessing May or June, maybe earlier for those that need visa sponsorship.
  2. You still have time to apply for LSE MSc EME, they usually close the application quite late. You might also still be able to apply to BGSE, CEMFI and Bocconi but won't be considered for funding
  3. Hey, I was admitted to 3 of the uni you're interested in (LSE, UCL, Cambridge), didn't apply to the others and I think that given your grades you should be fine. Oxford might give some importance to research experience as they ask for an academic essay when applying but for the rest of the UK unis, you can be admitted with 0 research experience (at least I was). Although, I didn't apply to the MSc Econometrics and Mathematical Economics at LSE as I didn't have the maths background for it and by looking at your profile, it might be the program of your interest there so I can't really help assess your profile for the EME.
  4. Hey, https://www.jetdencre.ch/a-tentative-guide-for-phd-admissions-in-economics-3-after-the-offers-7212 This article was written by someone admitted to Princeton, you can look at the 3rd non-italic paragraph where he say that he showed his interest in the program when he was waitlisted. Maybe it won't help to do that but just so you know that people admitted off the waitlist did that in the past :) good luck!
  5. Hey, so the reply came and they said that we will be reassessed for funding for the second year if we have a good performance for the first one! There's no waitlist for funding though so the decision is final for this year.
  6. Yes, I think they know that, their advertising video really emphasize the closeness of professors with students so I guess it's a major point and this limit of 30 people seems to be quite strict, I really hope they intend to keep it. Anyways, I emailed them to ask about funding, I'll let you know if anything interesting comes out of their answer !
  7. Hey, thanks for the reply. Yeah, after talking a bit more with my family, it seems that it would be quite hard for me to finance LSE's master. I was stubbornly focused on LSE because it was sort of an old dream of mine and also a professor told me that it would be better to go there for future options but I found these two files that have a list of the placement for the master at CEMFI and I find the average placement quite satisfying (also posted these in another forum post) : http://www.cemfi.es/ftp/pdf/Annual_Report_on_Quality_2014-2016.pdf http://www.cemfi.es/ftp/pdf/Annual_Report_on_Quality_2013-2015.pdf It deconstruct the belief I held that only top placements were decent there.
  8. Hi, I was admitted to the CEMFI yesterday without funding, it was kind of disappointing as I thought everybody would at least get a tuition waiver. Anyways, I'll still attend the program as it looks really great and my other option is the MSc Economics at LSE, which I can simply not afford. I'm also a non-EU student (Switzlerand) and will have to rely on my extended family to pay for the two years, probably taking a loan too, as my parents alone would not be able to afford that. It also means I'll have to work a little before entering a PhD to repay all that. It's really not optimal to take a loan but it's the only option I have, coming from a relatively low income family. For people interested in the CEMFI, I found these two files, they have an exhaustive list of placements for the master students there, which I find really good on average : http://www.cemfi.es/ftp/pdf/Annual_Report_on_Quality_2014-2016.pdf www.cemfi.es/ftp/pdf/Annual_Report_on_Quality_2013-2015.pdf Edit : Oh and do you guys think that non-funded offers means that they intend to have a larger incoming class ? Or is it just because they have less funding ? Because the fact that the class size was limited to 30 places is a major plus for the program
  9. Hey guys, I know, my post looks a lot like others but there are some specifities to my case that pushed me to create my own post. I've read basically every old posts regarding European masters and I am still left uncertain as to my choice. It was pointless applying to EME as my maths background is not adequate, yet, I have received offers from several programs and having eliminated the others, I'm left with CEMFI and LSE Economics masters. I was admitted to CEMFI without funding, nor tuition waiver, otherwise I would have chosen CEMFI straight away, saving this forum from my post. My end goal is a top PhD program but the thing is, as I come from a rather low family income, I would have to take a loan for either programs, which I would have to reimburse right after the master. It means I'll have to work for 1 to 2 years after the master at CEMFI and 2 to 3 years after LSE's (estimated on the wages of my high-income home country, Switzerland). First of all, am I right to think that, from the PhD perspective, CEMFI's program is better in terms of preparation and doesn't come far in terms of reputation ? I am more worried about the job market CEMFI is a small institution and less known to the public, so I am wondering whether the CEMFI is good if you intend to work ? Or would I be better off going to LSE, work say 2 years in industry and 1 year as RA? Maybe some people that have been to the CEMFI and have seen classmates going to the industry could help me there ? The fact that CEMFI would cost me about 20'000$ less, has a small incoming class, researchers that look concerned about their master's student and has a two year program make me favor it. Yet, I cannot deny that LSE's MSc Econ teachers have a stellar CV and be taught by some of them would probably be a thrilling experience and the institution has a strong brand name.
