  1. Hey everybody! Let's do something to get our minds off of admission results for a bit. What books are you planning on reading over the summer, before classes/math camps start? I'm thinking about books that will help you get ready for the next 5 years, though I guess this can be anything you've been meaning to read. For anyone who's already been through this process, please share books you read to prepare (or wish you had!). I will start. I found a copy of "Mostly Harmless Econometrics" in a used bookstore and snatched it up, thinking it might be good to read before taking graduate econometrics courses.
  2. Yeah I got an offer, but I haven't seen too much on GC from them so I think it's very likely they haven't even done a full first round of offers. Good luck!
  3. Listen, I'm as in the dark as you are so take that with a heavy grain of salt... at this point, no news could mean anything. And there's lots of schools still to announce, somethings gonna break your way sooner or later :encouragement:
  4. I haven't heard back either. While it's possible that they send more acceptances Monday morning, my assumption is that no word at this point is either a rejection or a waitlist but I am not sure if/when they will send out those results.
  5. I think JHU usually isn't til first or second week of March as well, unfortunately :/ not sure about UIUC, I heard back from UIC already
  6. Sooo who are we expecting to hear from this week? Might be a little early for Maryland I guess... Brown? Wisconsin? what else
  7. There was no info about funding in the email I got, but the details were in the attached official offer letter
  8. GC has acceptances, rejections, and wait lists from Minnesota, so I'm not really sure how to interpret not having heard anything... but I am provisionally assuming an implied rejection from them and Michigan. Harvard as well, though I never really thought I had a chance there. On the plus side, University of Pittsburgh! With $$. Holding out hope I might be competitive for Maryland and Hopkins as well. Have a restful weekend everyone, next weeks another week
  9. No... though I saw one person in GC post that they did. I assume the fact that I didn't receive one means I'm either firmly accepted or rejected, since it doesn't seem like a bunch of people got interview requests (only the one GC post). Someone from the department, in a January mass email, said they were hoping to send out a first round of acceptances in mid February. Soooo I guess that would be today (or next week). Assuming you also applied there, good luck!
  10. good luck today everyone (*deep breath*), got my eyes out hoping for Brown, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh...
  11. Should've included them in my list! Definitely want to hear from them...
  12. haha fair enough, quiet day for me then. I only applied to twp top ten and am reaeally not expecting an offer from them, I'm just really impatient for more top 25-30 schools to roll out -- Maryland, Michigan, Wisconsin, Hopkins, Texas. Not necessarily expecting any of those tomorrow, though. Maybe Michigan next week?
  13. Chin up everyone who didn't get into Yale! Lots more to come, though I know the rejections sting. Speaking of many more to come, quiet day today... fingers crossed for tomorrow.
  14. Guessing most of us are finishing up our undergrad (or maybe masters for some)... I'm in real analysis and doing an independent study project so between that, my other classes, and actual making-money work I have more than enough to keep me distracted but all I seem to want to do is watch basketball and refresh GC lol
  15. Sure hope you're right... Notre Dame was first thing Monday morning (!!!) and then not a peep since then. 2017 results suggest the next two days could bring a fair amount of results, and that next week might be the most active (in terms of acceptances, at least).
  16. Thanks! Yeah, looks like last year UMD was 27/28 and Hopkins was the 6th/7th March (with a few February interviews). Really wishing these two were sooner. I've got into a few programs 40-60 but I didn't even make the wait list at Minnesota (implicit rejection, I think, given a bunch of wait list posts on GC). I know Minnesota is highly competitive but it makes me feel pessimistic about the top 25 schools I applied to.
  17. Anyone know when U Maryland and/or Johns Hopkins decisions usually roll out? (sorry I know I can comb through gradcafe later I just thought I'd ask while I had a second)
  18. I didn't get anything from them one way or another -- which maybe means they just released a 1st round of results, and rejections/waitlist/more acceptances will come out down the road, or maybe they didn't get through their full list and will be sending out more decisions in the morning. I've gotten three acceptances now, one phone call and two emails, and it seems like all of them were kind of individualized. So, depending on how many candidates a program is accepting that could be a multi-day process i guess? Not sure how that usually works.
  19. Ah, I am disappointed I didn't get an email from them but super happy for the rest of you. It's a fantastic school, congrats!!
  20. Woops never mind that was applied economics
  21. Saw a Minnesota result just went up -- anyone here get one?? Would be the first of the top 20 schools I've applied to to issue decisions...
  22. Yeah I'm sure it varies by school, I know some of mine pay monthly as well, but I agree... between moving costs and student fees it sure would be nice to have a paycheck in hand right when I get to school..
  23. I asked this last week too! Idk. From the response I received, and the scrounging I've done online, I would say that it's much less likely, though not unheard of, to the extent that you should give yourself (and I should as well) a 48 hour break from checking email, grad cafe etc. Also, these cool graphs someone else shared of the 2017 gradcafe data seem to show a dropoff every 7 days or so, which would correspond with that theory. 24. Yeah, I was really thinking this week might bring a few more but I only got one result. Onto next week...
  25. That is an insane amount of money... maybe I'd have a harder time feeling this way if I'd applied to Chicago (and, I can only assume, likely rejected), but I am legitimately super happy for all of yall who got this offers. Seriously, congratulations, and hopefully everyone ends up with something they're (almost) equally happy with!
