One simple tip to remember for these kinds of problems. To minimise a -ve fraction you have to minimise the denominator so choose x and y values with least denominotors in the given range. Similarly to maximise a -ve fraction maximise the denominator.

A for me too. I plugged in the answer options. MAT how did you arrive at those equations: Should it not be this way (10x + y)/x = 12(10x + y) +1 (10y + x)/y = 10(10y + x) + 4 Not sure if you get the same thing after simplyfying these dint bother simplifying.
