  1. E. From 1 --> y = x + 3 so PR>PQ but no info on the third side. Insuff From 2 --> PQ = 4 , PR= y, again not enough to find which side is the greatest. Combining, PQ= 4, PR= 5. Third side can be anywhere between 5-4 (1) and 9(5+9) If the third side, QR is 1,2 or 3 angle opposite PR is the largest. If QR is 6,7 or 8, angle opposite QR is largest. SO E
  2. gmat168, it would be very helpful if you can post your first impressions of the new OG guide. Mainly, if OG11 has mostly old questions in ETS paper tests as Erin fears. I have decided to go with OG10(only for verbal practice) and 11 as the new supplements seem to overlap with OG10. I'll focus on all sections in OG11 while using OG10 mainly for verbal. Does this strategy sound ok ?
  3. I vote for B : If some fullerenes has been found on the remains of the small meteorite, then it may not be useful to geologists in evaluating the state of the earth's crust.
  4. Now that OG 11th edition is out, I am sure many gmat takers(those who have about a month or two before the gmat) will be debating what combination of books would be the most optimal . It looks like all questions(300 each in Q and V) in the two supplements are from OG 10. So does one need to get OG 11 and OG10 or would OG 10 be good enuf. If you see the posts of all folks who did 700+, everyone of them managed with OG10.
  5. That's a very good question. I am faced with the same dilemna. If the supplements have the same questions as the 10th edition, then it may not be of much value. OG11 plus OG10 may be an overkill as well..
  6. Why not C for "and it is believed to have been" ? "it" refers to the reptile.
  7. B it is. Premise1: If a language center of the brain is damaged(X), then linguistic capabilities are impaired in some way(Y). So, If X then Y, implies : If not Y then not X. Conclusion : People have suffered a serious stroke on the left side of the brain and their linguistic capabilities are NOT impaired. They must have their language centers in the right half. So not Y means Not X: which is same as B Also wakau, can you please use spoiler tags ?
  8. 16. A number of linguists contend that all of the thousands of languages spoken by the world’s five billion people can be traced back to a common root language. (A) that all of the thousands of languages spoken by the world’s five billion people can be traced (B) that the world’s five billion people speak thousands of languages of which all can be traced © the world’s five billion people speak thousands of languages which are all traceable (D) all of the thousands of languages spoken by the world’s five billion people to be traceable (E) the ability to trace all of the thousands of languages that are spoken by the world’s five billion people OA: Not sure I agree with the OA. What is wrong with B ?
  9. check out spidey's notes. "due to" should be used only when it can be replaced by "because of". so the answer is E.
  10. I would pick E. I the argument is weakened if there are cases where a) an instiutution has not acted responsibly and still retained power b). an institution has acted responsibilty and still lost power OR E is an example of scenario a.
  11. I would go with E. Writers ---> Stalin's cruelty (in his last days) was explained by "morbid suspiciousness". Critic ---> "morbid suspiciousness is an inherent trait of all tyrants. So politically he had to be cruel.
  12. Folks, I took PP1 and got 660 with only a 32 in verbal. I immediately knew after the test that I need to work on RC. Had to guess the last 2-3 questions to complete. Looks like RC can be improved with practice.. If there are any specific tips, it would greatly help..
  13. Folks, Have a question about expected score. So far : 690 in Kap diag 600 Kap CAT1 Just took PP1 today and got 660 (Q48 V32) (Not yet started OG) A bit disappointed with PP1 score. Do you think I can cross 700 if I do the OG thoroughly from this poit on..Appreciate your feedback.

    Geometry

    NEw Perimeter = 2(1.1l + 0.9b) Old 2(l + b) Difference = 0.1(l -b) This could be or == So 4
  15. My take on this : combining aba =a --- (1) bab = b ---(2) multiplying both sides of (1) and (2) (ab)^3 = ab So, if x^3 = x, then x = 1 or -1 ab = 1 or -1, insuff. That's why the answer is E.
  16. I took the Kaplan diagnostic last weekend. Just wanted to know if it matters if it materrs to take the PP1 after giving a couple of Kaplan CAT1's . Or should I take the PP1 this week. I have just started prep last weekend. Did a little CR and SC (both from the Kaplan gmat book)over the week since giving the diagnostic. Would appreciate any comments.
  17. Thank you Oblexous ! Yes I gave the diagnostic from Kaplan Higher Score CD without any prep. In the past week after the diagnostic, I have started going thru the Kaplan book.
  18. guys,my 2 cents: going by the actual experiences of people of who gave GMAT, doesn't look llike Quant is a lot tougher than OG. I think if you do OG and supplement with Kaplan, it should be more than enough. Even today I saw a post of a 770 scorer who says that quant was identical to OG (tough problems).

You can also try Kaplan diagnostic. I gave it last weekend and got 690. Do you think think this is good if you are hoping for 700+ ? Also, can someone let me know what would be a good time to schedule the gmat? I am a bit rusty with my math and really need to work on verbal. I am thinking of giving about a month(completing Kaplan book and CAT's and getting halfway through OG) before scheduling. any thoughts on this ?
  20. I think it is just 6C1*4C1*3C1 as there is arrangement required. All he needs is 3 electives, the order does not matter for him to satisfy the reqs.
  21. Hi folks, I am a new member at Test magic , I just joined today (I am glad I found this before my gmat prep). I am a working professional(I have a fiull time software job) I am planning to take GMAT in about 2months. I would appreciate if someone can answer the fowlloing questions: 1. I am faced with the same dilemna that other folks have faced. Should I register for the GMAT right away or track my progress for a month ? If I schedule the test a month later how long will it take to get a center ? 2. Is two months sufficient time ? I plan to study for about 1 -1.5 hrs on weekdays and 8-10 on weekends. Going by other posts, thats what I see other folks have put in. 1. My materials so far are : 1. Kaplan 2. OG(will be ordering tomorrow) 3. PowerPrep CD 4. Testmagic Is Princeton also absolutely required ? 3. I took the Kap Diagnostic last night and got a 690. Is this good enough for a target of 700+ ? I am going through the kaplan book and I am planning to take the 3 Kaplan CAT's and Powerprep 1 before I start with the OG. Thanks for your response
