  1. Please Grade my below essay, it's an independent task for Toefl. Topic: People benefit from traveling in their own country than from traveling to the foreign country. I agree that traveling in the own country as well as the foreign country benefit people in various ways. traveling in the own country used to know in depth about own country different flavors. Foreign country traveling used to know about a different culture and lifestyle. Traveling in its own country is advantageous in many terms first it's very cheap to travel in the same country. we can easily communicate with local people so it's easy to bargain. this gives a deep knowledge about our own culture, lifestyle, and food. In our own country, it's easy to visit a place more than once because it's cheap and easily accessible. visiting a place more than once enable us to experience the same thing with the different point of views and angles. More information shall enable us to share it with others which will result into increased tourism in our country, this will affect our economy and finally, it will be used as the welfare of our country people. Traveling in a foreign country is helpful for getting worldwide knowledge. this introduces us to know about different culture, lifestyle, and their local food taste. we meet different type of peoples, mostly we come across communication problem but at the same time we communicate with those local people in terms gesture, different sound words. so it enable us to express ourselves in more creative ways. Now the day's lots of information is present on the internet, we can browse for foreign location on the internet too, but experiencing it physically is a unique and mindblowing experience which can't be experienced through looking in the pictures on the internet. so overall traveling has lots of advantage in terms of knowledge, experience the beauty of different places and economical benefits.
  2. Hi, I was going through some independent essay writing questions. These questions ask us to take a stand of either for/against or choose an option among 2 options. I want to know if it is possible to take a neutral stand or write an answer containing mix of both options. For example, please see below question: If you were an employer, which kind of worker would you prefer to hire: an inexperienced worker at a lower salary or an experienced worker at a higher salary? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer. I would like to include points for both inexperienced and experienced workers. Each has its own merits in different situations. So, do I have to pick one over the other or can I include both in my answer? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Aparna
  3. Question: Some students enjoy taking distance-learning courses on the computer or television. Other students would rather tall of their courses with a teacher in a classroom. Which of these options do you think is better? Use specific reasons and examples in support of your opinion. My writing: Nowadays, a lot of distance-learning courses are offered on the Internet which attract many learners in different parts of the world. On the other hand, some people prefer the traditional ways of learning in classroom settings. I like the former, as it has many advantages that the traditional way of learning does not have. First, it is much more convenient and flexible to learn from taking a distance-learning course than to go and learn in a classroom. We can access to the online course with just a few clicks on our computer, and we can decide to view the lecture or tutorial videos whenever we like. On the contrary, we are required to go to a specific place at a specific time if we enroll in the traditional courses with teachers in classrooms. The time schedule may clash with other courses or our own schedule. In addition, if we miss some important points when viewing the lecture video, we can just pause the video and go back to the previous parts - something we cannot do in a classroom. Second, distance-learning courses offer more choices than traditional courses. We can have access to all the courses provided by different institutions across the globe. We can study physics with MIT Prof. Walter Lewin, or we can take other courses taught by renowned professors and teachers. But very often, we are only limited to specific choices of courses provided by our schools or community if we take the traditional courses. The courses that we would like to take may not be available, or the instructors may not suit our learning style or habit. Fortunately, all these problems can be solved by taking distance-learning courses as there are so many options available. It is unlikely that not a single course or instructor from all over the world appeals to us. Some people are concerned about the lack of interaction among students and teachers in distance-learning courses. However, this is not true. There are discussion forums in the course homepage and students can engage in discussions on the lastest materials covered, learning tips, assignment, etc. Sometimes, there are even video conference so that you can talk to the instructors or other students using your web-cam. The number of students who enroll in distance-learning courses is also higher than that of traditional classes, so there can be hundreds, thousands or even more learners who accompany you. The interaction will not be less than that of a classroom, especially when the class is small with only ten or twenty students. Distance-learning courses are becoming a trend because many features and advantages that are not found in traditional classes can be found in these convenient and flexible courses. As long as we adapt to this new mode of learning, we can definitely gain more than we have ever imagined. Any comments regarding the language, grammar, content, organization? And can someone give me an estimate score? thanks
  4. Many people believe that the progress affects people's lives in a positive way. Therefore, they consider that governments should always try to support progress. Nonetheless, I think that uncontrolled progress can cause many problems. Therefore, I disagree with the statement that it is always good for several significant reasons. First of all, it should be taken into account that progress can lead to environmental problems. For example, due to the uncontrolled economic development natural resources are exploited by people unsophisticatedly. Due to the exploitation of natural resources such as fossil fuels, the amount of carbon dioxide released to the atmosphere increases every year. Carbon dioxide which is a green house gas increases the temperature on Earth significantly and it leads to a plenty of problems. Secondly, I believe that progress can lead to the disappearance of national values. For example, due to the speedy and comfortable transportation every year thousands of people travel to other countries. Mass tourism creates many problems for small minorities in certain countries. For example, people in developing countries are affected by western culture significantly and they forget their national values. These people affected by dominant cultures do not go on wearing their traditional clothes or live in a traditional way. Thus, progress causes disappearance of national identity. In conclusion, I would like to emphasize that my argument will probably be unacceptable to some people. For example, one can say that progress raises the life standard of people considerably; therefore it should be encouraged in any circumstances. Nonetheless, what I have argued here is that uncontrolled progress causes many problems such as environmental problems and disappearance of national values. For all of these reasons, I believe that progress is not always good. I have defined progress as economic and technological development. Have I addressed the essay directly to the topic? Thanks in advance.
