  1. Still waiting on Caltech, BU, Austin, UBC, McGill, Rice, WUSTL. Pretty sure Caltech, UBC are implicits, but let's see. I thought Austin might be implicit too, but they have been posting rejects, and I haven't been rejected (yet). On another note, Cornell, NYU have already sent rejects, so you might be waitlisted there too.
  2. Thanks for the reply! And fingers crossed, haha
  3. Couple questions here. Does anyone know of people who have heard back from Rice about the scheduling of interviews? It's been a while since they asked for details of prior coursework. I remember seeing a bunch of Cornell (Econ, not AEM or PAM) accepts on GC. Does anyone know if this is the whole list, or maybe just the people offered SAGE fellowships? I'm wondering whether I should be keeping my hopes up in this regard.
  4. Not necessarily. Depends on how you do in your program, who you get to write for you, and most importantly, what they write about you. That said, given the focus on mathematics in economics today, most schools tend to prefer students who have more preparation in terms of math courses. This can sometimes translate to a slight, unstated bias against 1-year Master's programs as compared to 2-year programs. Given that 1-year programs are more common in the UK, this might be perceived as a disadvantage. However, note the qualifying assumptions and conditions I used in the previous argument make it a very minor issue. You should do just fine after a Master's from the UK.
  5. Ahh, thanks for the clarification! I'll keep this in mind in the future.
  6. No offense, but you shouldn't have applied to that safety school if you are unsure about going there. It is a decent rule of thumb (not to mention economically efficient) to apply only to those schools that you would join if you got a funded offer. The very idea of a safety school is meaningless if you would rather not go there.
  7. Odd, first post I made about this didn't go through for some reason. I'll repeat. Same here. I got an offer, but didn't post to GC. I know of two others, one who was accepted, one who was rejected, neither of whom posted to GC. At least 7-8 people have already signed up to the informal calls ffs mentioned. So, to summarize, I guess the first acceptance list is out. But no news is probably relatively good news. You're probably on the waitlist, and might hear from them soon (the DGS suggested the waitlisted candidates would be kept in the loop as people start accepting/ turning down the offer).
