  1. Hello everyone! I have received an admission offer from Barcelona GSE for the M.Sc in Macroeconomic policy and financial markets program. The offer is partially funded, so I will have to spend 10000 euros + living expenses (1 year). As an international student, I need to get a clear idea of how would this programme help me in the future, that is, whether an investment worth it or not? Background: I am a Mathematics graduate from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and have worked as a research associate in the economics area at Indian Institute of Management (IIM). Both of these institutes are the best in the country and have an excellent international reputation. Through my work until now, I have garnered an enormous amount of interest in financial markets; I aspire to either work for international development institutions as a financial economist or as a global investment manager in international corporations. The concerns I have in mind are as follows: 1. Non-EU alumni placement information: It is not possible to figure out how non-EU students have fared after graduating from the Barcelona GSE website and resources. As a non-Spanish speaker, I want to know how the opportunities to find a job within the EU after this program are? As another poster @iitiim has mentioned before: "At the end of it, if I have to return to my home country, then I don't think I will be able to get a job that offers any significant raise from what I am currently earning, which basically means I will get no return on the investment." 2. Location of the programme: The programme takes place in the Bellaterra campus, and all other BGSE master's programmes take place in the Ciutadella, how does this affect the living experience (as I see networking one of the essential components)? Thanks for taking the time to read and reply! Cheers, notmyname
  2. Don't have a very outstanding profile. Many rejections from this admission cycle. Only got a Michigan offer right now. But I'm considering going to a Booth RA program (applied micro related, I'm interested in doing micro) and reapply two years later. Any suggestions on that?
  3. Hi all, I am interested in the field of Development economics and macroeconomics and want to pursue a Ph.D. post, my masters. I have received admission offers from the following universities for fall 2018. 1. Boston University (MA Economics, 1 year) - $57,000 (tuition) 2. University of Minnesota (MS Applied economics, 2 years) - $50,000 (tuition) 3. UT Austin (MA Economics, 1 year) - $21,750 (tuition after scholarship) 4. Vanderbilt University (MA Economics, 16-24 months) - nearly $30,000 (tuition after scholarship) Kindly advice me on which university should I opt for masters. I want to know about the following - 1. How are the job placements post masters, i.e., what is the average salary? 2. How easy/difficult it is to go from the master's programs of the above universities to their Ph.D. program? 3. How are the Ph.D. placements of the above universities - where do students go? Thanks!
  4. Hello guys, I have been admitted to the PhD in Economics at the GSEFM (Frankfurt) and Master in International Economics at the Graduate Institute Geneva so far. I am also waiting for the response for MRes in Economics at Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona). Consequently, in a few days I have to decide which one to attend. I am finishing Master program in Econometrics currently and I am mostly interested in Macroeconomics and Econometrics (Time series analysis). As far as I know, both programs are rigorous and reputable. Placements are more that decent (especially Geneva), both cities enable plenty opportunities in a professional sense. The main argument pro Frankfurt is the fact that I will enrol in the PhD program directly and the nearness of the ECB, Bundesbank etc. On the contrary, Geneva seems to have better placements and more prominent program and professors, but I will have to start with the master program and have no idea about chances to exploit the fast track option and enrol in PhD after the first year of Master. Anyone who can give me some suggestions? Any input is welcome. Thank you in advance! Cheers!
  5. I have offers from two of these schools and have been wait listed at the third. My research interest is in supply chain management and all these schools have faculty I would like to work with. I am having a difficult time in choosing one based on rankings and recent placement records. Could you please share your thoughts and perspectives? Thanks!
