I'm not really familiar with the statistical approach. A key merit of structural models is that they usually have a lot more to say about counterfactuals. They tend to be more tightly connected to analytically models as well.
-
This is true. However, placements are reasonable proxies for faculty input, which largely affects whether you can "do well". And believe me, it does vary even among the very top schools.

For CB, all three are excellent. Perhaps Stanford is better by a thin margin. For quant, they have very different styles, although they are all almost purely empirical. Chicago and Stanford are mostly empirical (structural) IO, while Wharton is more statistical. The recent trend seems to be more favorable for structuralist.

Finance program at Stanford gsb vs. Yale SOM?
ffsmaster replied to Jiacui Li's topic in PhD in Business
OP wants to do behavioral finance...There is a big gap from there to psychology... I do behavioral econ and I'm not taking any courses you listed or work with any psychologist. I've never heard of any behavioral econ student doing so either. And I would argue Yale has a stronger behavioral finance group, with Shiller, Barberis, Choi, Spiegel, etc. -

Visit both and then decide. -
Welcome!

I heard the research master in accounting at Tilburg is really good at placing students to phd programs.

Their program director used to post here. You might want to search for the older posts.

iPad+Goodreader+Cloud(dropbox, google drive, etc). 16G is more than enough. If you prefer e-ink, sony has launched a new 13.3 inch e-reader that looks promising.

A short question regarding GRE (Marketing PhD)
ffsmaster replied to verdidamaestro's topic in PhD in Business
It could hurt you if you were otherwise marginal. However, if your profile really stands out and your quantitative skills are supported by good grades of relevant coursework, the adcom probably wouldn't care much, especially as you are applying for CB. -
A short question regarding GRE (Marketing PhD)

Q 160 too low. Aim for 165+. -
I should clarify that I'm referring to the competitiveness of PhD admission rather than placement.
-
Gneezy is the big behaviorist there, along with several others. It could be worthwhile to apply for if that's your interest, especially if you are going to apply for their econ program anyway. I think you can essentially get another shot for free. Yes, Rady's program is quite new (started in 09 I think). But it's also quite competitive. I would say it's probably as competitive as any top 20 b-schools.

Second analysis. But PDE could be quite useful, too.

Profile Evaluation - 2014 Ph.D. in Marketing (quant)
ffsmaster replied to zoucheer's topic in PhD in Business
I would be surprised if you didn't make it to one of your targets. Also you might check chasedream (in Chinese) for more information of quant programs. -
Marketing PhD (CB) with economics background
ffsmaster replied to rainbow's topic in PhD in Business
You could switch from Quant to CB track after the first year, when you are convinced and fully informed. I heard it has been done in a top CB program, so I guess it largely applies elsewhere. -
Have you considered GRE? I heard it had easier quant, at least for the old one. Most finance programs will happily accept GRE, I suppose.

OP said in the summer. So I assume there is no other obligations. That makes it totally doable. Whether it is desirable is another question.

GMAT mistake-- Bad mood, I don't know what to to do.
ffsmaster replied to midommab's topic in PhD in Business
GRE is preferred or even required for finance. -
It's not like that everywhere.I know a top 5 program (by usnews grad econ ranking) failed some students in core classes. B's are common.

Should the PhD program be an "ethical" program?
ffsmaster replied to rocketvarman's topic in PhD in Business
Interesting idea. Maybe you should tell all Harvard applicant about the Shleifer case. -
Tablet/Cloud For Reviewing Publications
ffsmaster replied to TheAmazingSteve's topic in PhD in Business
For tags and search, it's a bit complicated in Windows 7, so I'll just put the "tags" in file names or folder names. I use dropbox as the cloud (after several campaigns I have well above 20G for free). I use iPad as tablet, in which I use Goodreader and Notability to view pdfs, take notes, and sync with my cloud. -
Post acceptance (Stipends, Spouse Visa etc.)
ffsmaster replied to aqua2013's topic in PhD in Business
Can you get J1 instead? Then your spouse can get J2 which comes with work permit.
