  1. I think you are right. It should be: research is love, research is life. However, IMO reviewing a bit can't hurt, especially if you have been out of school for a long time.
  2. I met Joshua Aizenman from UCSC a couple months ago. Great guy. Has a bunch of editorial appointments. You should totally check his papers on both international and development econ.
  3. Irvine has Neumark for labor. Don't know much about the others. Are you planning to visit UCI next week?
  4. What if you've already got a decent understanding of the literature in your field, but the Real Analysis class you took was back in 2014? That's precisely my situation. I'm planning to review a bit after enrolling. I think it would be useful to remember some things before hand... Whats ur take on that scenario?
  5. I’m also Still waiting for UWM and Michigan. However I’m already discounting those as implicit rejections.
  6. Thanks for the info JJ. Departments probably only introduce their best to prospective students, so that signal could be biased.
  7. I think that if I don't get a letter for Cornell today its safe to assume I'll be rejected, according to the historical pattern.
  8. I plan to do so. Also I will probably visit. However, often its easier to get candid responses from the interwebs. And no one here tells me to GTFO.
  9. I saw a post on econ job market rumors that claimed that 2 thirds were told to leave due to failing their core exams. The thread goes on and on about pass rates under 50% for the last three years. I know most of these posts are just a bunch of sexist bullies talking trash. Thus these are relevant questions: Are pass rates that low at UC Davis? They mistreat their students? How well they treat students? Davis is my best shot so far so I'm really interested on those issues. (2 acceptances, 4 rejections and 9 applications pending)
  10. The strategy of watching Philadephia and drinking tons of water was a failure. Voodoo sounds like an interesting prospect...
  11. I work at a Central Bank with several dozen Ph.D. economists. Many tell me that the longer it takes for a University to contact you, the better for your chances. That basically is the opposite of the usual implicit rejection scenario. Any thoughts on that?
  12. Same situation here... counting it as an implicit rejection
  13. What about that Princeton post on grad cafe?? Freaking out
  14. The whole plan is drinking tons of water and watching movies about the universities. I'm gonna binge watch the following: "A beautiful mind", "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" and "Philadelphia". Got any movies set in Ann Arbor? Or should I forget about that one?
  15. I got an acceptance while peeing. I was watching the movie Lady Bird, in which there is a teenager determined to get accepted into a prestigious NY university instead of having to settle for UC Davis. After the movie ended I told my GF that I applied for Davis and that, unlike Lady Bird, I wanted to attend. I went to pee and received the email. Weird coincidence
  16. Thye must really like you if they are willing to spend some money on you. You should totally go and show ur interest!!
  17. Same situation for me. I wrote to them two days ago asking when should I be expecting the formal acceptance. They haven’t replied yet. However I decided to attend the March visit to UC Irvine. What about you guys?
