Hello all, I applied to USC and have received an email from them requesting my 2018 Fall grades. And in the email they said "identified you as a promising applicant" but more information is needed before a decision could be made. I was really excited to see this as USC is one of my top choices but was wondering how many people who applied to USC got this email. Does "promising" really mean something here? It would be really great if anyone who had applied to USC before or anyone who is familiar with the admissions process at USC could help out! Thank you guys.

Hello folks. I've been following Urch for a while, but this is my first post. Please allow me to introduce myself a bit. I'm an international applicant, I got a Bachelor in Corporate Finance (outside the U.S.) in 2007 and a masters in Finance (in the U.S) in 2012. After 8 year working experience, I want to change my career path to academic instead of industry. My academic goal is to pursue a PhD in Econ or Finance. Because I'm out of the academic field for quite a long time, I'm supposed to get a Master in Econ before doing a PhD. Recently, I've just got accepted into several Masters' programs including UT-Austin (M.A. Econ with $), Vanderbilt (GPED or Master in Econ Development, no info about funding), UC Santa Cruz (M.S.in Applied Econ and Finance, with fellowship $), and I'm still waiting for USC (M.A. Econ). May I ask for your opinion which program is suitable for me, who have a background in Finance (Assume I got accepted to USC). I'm open to both PhD in Econ and PhD in Finance, though I understand getting an admission into a good PhD Finance program is extremely difficult. My research interest would be Macro, Micro, Econometrics and Corporate Finance. Thank you in advance.

Hello there, I have been accepted by the two aforementioned unis. I know that in terms of prestige perhaps Cambridge is the better of the two, however I feel that my interests (behavioral, experimental, development) are more closely linked to USC. Plus USC in LA! I guess my question is: Will attending USC close doors in the future compared to cambridge?

i haven't seen much about USC on here. but their placements aren't very impressive: Recent Placements > Department of Economics > USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences is their econ program just not that great? i've noticed older rankings have placed USC higher than usnews does now. did it used to be a good program?

Hi Everyone! This is my first post in TM. I applied to 18 Econ PhD programs this year (International applicant). After a string of rejections, I've finally got through USC, ASU, ISU & UC Riverside (all with financial support.) I believe my current interests are Development, Labor and Econometrics. I might get interested in Experimental as well, haven't had formal exposure yet. I need your help in deciding which program to finally choose. (Have posted a thread in the Econ PhD section.)
