Apply to Western MFE and MA. They love quant/math people and often take engineering majors given some econ knowledge. However, professional programs like the MFE cost a lot and may not be ideal if you want to continue to a PhD.

Your profile to me seems competitive for top 5 Canadian MAs. From what I hear the doctoral stream MA at U of T is gone, they just allow some students to take PhD courses. Western is the only program with a PhD stream MA in Canada now I believe. -
Are you doing an Honours BA? if not i would recommend that if you can do it in your last year upcoming. It would give you a bit of research experience and potentially a good reference. As well, as i recall a few programs asked in the application about the type of research papers i wrote in the undergraduate degree.

I did poorly my first year, went to a very unknown Canadian school and took a extra year taking 3 a semester to upgrade to an honours degree. I ended up getting a few offers from top Canadian masters programs, so don't worry about it much. -
I don't think this is entirely true, most applicants at these schools are expected to have advanced macro and micro. You also only meet the bare minimum for math courses, in fact Queens actually states on its website most applicants are expected to have ODE in addition to first year calc sequence and linear algebra. Try to talk to your dept. about taking these classes, with them you will for sure get into top Canadian schools.

If your goal is to get into a top tier PhD, do another MA after carleton at a feeder school. I.e UBC, U of T, SFU, Queens or Western. Generally these schools will fund you so the extra year wont set you back horribly.

Ya Western MFE is 0 funding also. I was lucky enough to not have debt from undergrad so i decided to go for the loans opposed to a funded offer given my interest in financial econ. And yes, I've looked into housing a bit. I've been looking into the graduate apartments on campus, and approx cost to rent off campus. So far including utilities cost they seem comparable. My only concern is the summer internship most likely will be outside of London so im trying to decide whether on campus or off campus will be an easier transition leaving and coming back for my final semester.

I have not heard back from UBC. Im assuming I did not make first round as others on this forum have been made offers. Not sure if UBC sends out notifications of implicit rejections or not. Did you end up hearing from U of T MFE?

Was offered admin to Carleton, Guelph and McMaster with funding over the past few weeks also. Still going to go to Western MFE.

Heard from them last week, offered admission with full tuition + 22k funding. Rejected the offer today.

Seems more like a personal choice to me. However, I have been told by some profs that their colleges who went on and did PhDs at U of T felt like just a number (too many students at U of T). I would recommended to not renege on these offers if you will apply as a PhD student to them in the future, don't burn any bridges. Ask for a deadline extension instead.
