  1. Econometrics? Some quant students do theory! :) I think the most successful applicants tend to be undergrads. If you could get into everywhere after college, you don't need to do a master.
  2. People are heterogeneous! The first year is really easy and enjoyable for me. I think the two best suggestions (for people in quant marketing or other quantitative fields) are: 1 Have a great rest before starting the program. Preparation in advance at the current stage doesn't matter much, while a relaxed body/mind helps a lot. 2 Don't do any research. Instead, focus on the coursework. But again, as I said, people are heterogeneous. You should find the best strategy for yourself.
  3. The entire discussion here is so funny... 1. It's crazy to include Harvard to the top-tier marketing PhD programs. 2. There're definitely people who chose, say, WUSTL/UCLA/USC over MIT/Harvard/Stanford etc. 3. CMU, which has one of the best marketing PhD programs for a long time, is often substantially underrated.
  4. For some of these places, GRE might matter. But for top places such as the one you've gotten some signals, I doubt they would even look at it.
  5. I think it's not good. Simply mentioning a name doesn't reflect too much, and thus won't help you. But it may hurt a lot if the professor will move/doesn't want new students to work with. It's probably better to focus on what subfield/topics you are interested in (and how good you are) and make the professor feels that you have similar interest and want to work with you after reading the essay. It's much more important for the professor to be interested in you than vice versa.
  6. Good luck! I think you could apply to both.
  7. Thanks BrazilianPhD! The model needs major revision to be publishable :)
  8. I never trust/look at the rankings since I believe that they are inaccurate. But..., Berkeley being ranked 70th - 100th ??!! Do you remember the year & journal selected to produce that ranking? That's not inaccurate - it's funny, or, is it even legal ?:)
  9. It helps if you would be sure to accept the offer and let them know. Also, other offers from program of similar or higher level would help. Spots are more likely to be available after the admit day of the programs since people with multiple offers usually make a decision after visiting the programs. Good luck.
  10. Has Berkeley Marketing moved? Why are they so slow this year...
  11. Sorry, I know nothing about management. Good luck!
  12. I think it's very helpful and informative to talk to current students in both programs.
  13. Thanks for the information! No, of course I haven't accept an offer. Otherwise I would contact all of the programs immediately. I have several great offers and want to withdraw a few (not all) other programs. The major concern is that some schools have very late visit date, in which if I make the decision after visiting all of them, (n-1) programs will have very little time to get other candidates they might also really like.
  14. Thanks for the reply. What I am worried about is that some programs did on-site interview in previous years. If (I have no idea how it works) they've booked the flight when informing the students for interview, then it might make them unhappy. A related question is that if I get into a better program after one program scheduled the campus visit, what should I do? It's better for them to know earlier to extend offers to other candidates, but they might (?) also be angry at my not visiting the campus.
  15. It seems that many doctoral programs don't indicate the coordinator on the website. So how to withdraw the application from some programs?
