  1. Tutonic gives great advice here (as usual). Couple quick thoughts: 1) Can you not transfer to a more quantitative course, i.e. Maths and Econ /pure Econ? 2) I've seen many people from PPE degrees go into good graduate programmes. I'd research more and speak to people at Oxford very early on. Last comment. Tutonic it seems that the graduate diploma in Maths is not being offered this year. I'm not sure if this is something permanent (I hope not).
  2. Weak epistemic status here. I believe Warwick. The MRes/PhD seems rigorous, with good placements recently. Seems to be strong at Micro. In addition to this the Business School has a strong emphasis on Behavioural Econ.
  3. Sorry, slight tangent. Are predocs in the US commonly available to those outside the US (i.e. I'm from the UK)? I was under the impression that they were not.
  4. Apologies, please delete this thread.
  5. Hi iampain0, Thanks. I somewhat anticipated this answer. I think I should brush up on my skills and apply and see how things turn out.
  6. My prior thread I was considering Masters programmes, however, this is contingent upon obtaining funding via loans. In case this doesn't turn out well, I have been thinking about applying to pre-doc and RA positions. Although these positions seem to vary quite substantially, a common theme seems to be that they are looking for good empirical skills and programming skills. I don't know how I compare with other students in terms of these skills and so I wanted to know if there was a list of resources (or equivalent) for me to look through to prepare/refresh for these positions.
  7. This seems to be good advice from DDQuanta. If you do an MSc at a non-top 5 UK School, expect a placement into a non-top 5 UK School or maybe lower ranked US schools. These Masters programmes are really not comparable in terms of rigour to top 5 UK schools. Have you considered strong European programmes?
  8. Hi Tutonic, thanks for the advice! That reinforces my prior beliefs in this case.
  9. Thank you Bayes. I'm certain on a PhD and have been for the last few years. The reason that I am asking this question is that if I assume that the BGSE Advanced Track and LSE EME Econ are equal in terms of placing me into top tier PhD programmes, then the substantially cheaper programme at BGSE is advantageous for me as I will have to take out a sizeable loan to fund either of the programmes. However, if LSE has a significant advantage over BGSE in terms of academic placement, then I think it's worth me to swallow the cost.
  10. I have been admitted to both LSEs EME and BGSE Masters in Economics. Both of them are unfunded. I just wondered which has the best outcomes in terms of PhD placements? I have looked at some of the data on the websites but also wanted to get a second opinion on here! In terms of research interests, I am interested primarily in Empirical Macro. Additionally: 1) If I attend BGSE, I would take the advanced track. 2) I have no prior research experience. 3) LSE's course is twice the price of BGSE advanced track!
