About Me

Occupation

My Target Scores

  1. Currently an undergrad at a t-10 public US university, double majoring in statistics and economics with plenty of statistical programming experience and mathematics coursework to this point. Was wondering if anyone is aware of any good fall/winter undergrad RA opportunities by organizations available right now. I know Brookings has a fall internship program with some quantitative research internships but I'm afraid the emphasis on public policy may not be of best interest for Econ PhD apps, is anyone able to speak on this? My other alternative was reaching out to professors in my department to inquire about any open positions.
  2. I'm a student (undergraduate) at University of Colorado and I recently applied to a few internship positions at the Federal Reserve. Does anyone know typically how long the deliberation process is between application submission and interview offers? It's been 2.5 weeks and I haven't heard anything back, so I'm wondering if I just didn't get it, or if the process takes longer. If anyone has specific experience with the process, I'd greatly appreciate it.
  3. Which internship would be the better one to go for in my first summer of my 3-year MA program starting next fall: Central Intelligence Agency (Economic Analysis) or Council of Economic Advisers (summer only internship)? Both have strong future implications for me, the CIA I'd like to work for a few years between finishing my PhD and starting an academic position, and the CEA I'd love to work as a Senior Economist during my academic career for 1-2 years. I actually am now seeing the CIA as a much more competitive position, it requires a writing sample and more than a few skills, while the CEA just requires experience in Stata and good grades. The CIA summer internship is paid fairly competitively while the CEA internship is unpaid. I'm interested in health & development policy analysis as one of my research areas... are there any accepted guidelines out there or does anyone have any advice as to which I could lean towards?
  4. I have been looking for an internship ..i have the internship certificate but no pharmacy is hiring.can somebody give me tips or advice or help
  5. hello every one Im a us citizen graduated from the Sudan which i dont have its citizenship im only able to get a temporary registration this temporary registraion allows pharmasicts to work in certain pharmacies until they get a perminant license after doing their internship. the perminant license is not given for foreigners only the temporary one. Is a temporary registration accepted by the NABP ? YOUR HELP IS FOREVER APPRECIATED thanks in advance
  6. I just got done with my fgpee exam and passed the TOEFL test with the required scores. I am looking for sponsors in the North East region (Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey) to complete my internship of 1500 hours. Any help would be great. Thank you
  7. Applying to PhD in Econ/Fin this winter. Which summer internship will help the most? Thanks!
  8. John List and Anya Samek’s team at the University of Chicago / University of Southern California have several internships available this summer for outstanding undergraduate students in economics and related fields (all levels). Internships come with a small stipend. Internship location may be at the University of Chicago in Chicago, IL or the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA. The ideal student should be interested in behavioral economics and experimental methods, and will have a background in economics or a related field, such as psychology or public policy. The student should have excellent organizational skills and communication skills. Students who spend the summer with us will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic research team to carry out field experiments, including interacting with full time research staff and faculty at the center. Students will learn how to conduct field experiments, including subject recruitment, IRB approval, data collection and analysis. Broad areas of study that students may be involved in as part of this internship include health economics, economics of education and charitable giving. Most of your time will be spent “in the field,” for example, going door to door to raise money for charity and recording responses. Hence, ability and experience interacting with people in dynamic environments is a must. If you are interested, please contact David Jimenez-Gomez at bee2017internship@gmail.com. Please send a statement of interest and your CV. We have not finalized the location for our summer field experiments, therefore, we are currently recruiting assuming we may place you in either location (Chicago, IL or Los Angeles, CA). In your statement of interest, please indicate whether you have a preference for one city or the other, and whether you are willing to come to either city. Please also indicate whether you will have a car (students with cars will receive additional compensation for gas/mileage for driving to/from study sites).
  9. Hi, I'm a foreign grad pharmacist and I already passed FPGEE and TOEFL. I'm now waiting for my FPGE Certificate. I already got a pharmacy that I can work at and earn my internship hours. The question is, can I earn my 1,500 hours in only one pharmacy setting? What is the requirement? Another question is, in the Internship Instructions, it states that the extended intern registration will be expired if the extended-intern fail NAPLEX or MPJE. I would like to have the clarification that if the failure occur within 6 months after getting FPGEC, will I have a chance to re-take the test and try to pass within 6 months or the extended intern will be expired immediately after the first attemp regardless the period of time? I tried to call the Texas State Board, it kept transfer me to the voice mail, I also sent them an email and I have not got any reply yet. Thank you for any help.
  10. Hi, I am just finishing my internship in an independent pharmacy in Long Beach, California. The pharmacist is willing to consider taking another intern. It is a nice and quiet setting with an opportunity to learn a lot. We do compounding and work with medical equipment as well. It is a volunteer position for 1500 hours. If somebody is interested, please text me.
  11. US undergrad here, goodish institution (top 100 public university). The next summer will be the summer between my junior and senior year. I have had about 2 years of experience in econ research as an RA in my university so far, but want to branch out. I have a few questions about internships in general (which I haven't seen a whole lot of on websites I've gone to). 1. How competitive are the internships? 2. Will an internship at the Fed help you get into grad school (by looking good on your resume)? 3. Should you apply to multiple branches of the Fed to increase your chances? 4. What would be the marginal effect of me interning at the Fed vs. me continuing my RA at my home university over the summer? Thanks.
  12. I've just finished up my sophomore year in Undergrad at a large public university (top 30 econ dept). I am now fairly certain that I want to go to graduate school in economics, and would obviously like to get into a top 10 program. However, due to an internship falling through at a city's development coalition, I no longer am doing anything relevant with my summer, which makes me nervous about my grad applications. However, I have an internship at an economic research center during the academic year, have taken tons of math (I'm double majoring in math and econ), will be taking quite a few graduate courses in econ, and currently have a 4.0. How much will not having a summer internship hurt my application? Also, what would you all advise me to do with my summer now that my only real obligation is a part-time summer job? I've started learning Python and getting better at Stata because these seem relatively useful in econ, but I'm not sure if this is the right direction to go in.
  13. Hi, I'm a sophomore majoring in International Relations and Economics with a minor in math at a small top 40 liberal arts college in Southern California. I am considering a PhD in Economics (hence the math minor) and was wondering how work experience factors into admissions decisions. I know that research is important too, and I just have a couple of questions. Disclaimer: I am primarily interested in getting a PhD to go into economic policy making (WB, Fed, IMF, etc) specifically in developing countries. A Master's in Public Policy is also an option for me. Work Experience (relevant to Economics PhD/ Public Policy) 1. Last summer, between my freshman and sophomore year of college, I worked as an intern in DC for a Congresswoman, and wrote memos, did research into upcoming legislation, and wrote and edited speeches for the Congresswoman. 2. I recently got a research assistant position for this upcoming summer (between my sophomore and junior year of college), at the Economic Policy Research Institute located in Cape Town, South Africa. I will be working with Stata and other statistical packages, among other things to help with my research assistantship. Some other things that other past inters have done, and that I will do, include: contributed to a large-scale impact evaluation of South Africa’s child support grant; provided research assistance to a feasibility study on expanding the developmental impact of social security payments mechanisms for grant beneficiaries in South Africa; analysed national data-sets to determine the reach of various HIV-sensitive social protection programmes to vulnerable households within five African countries; explored viable policy options for the “vertical expansion” of the South African Child Support Grant (CSG); helped research, write and edit a 20 year review of social protection programmes in South Africa; worked with South African Members of Parliament enrolled in EPRI’s Parliamentary Capacity Building Programme How will the Economic Policy Research Institute internship, and the Congressional internship, look when applying to econ PhD programs? Will it count as relevant work experience, or research experience, or both, or nothing? I know that the think-tank is way more important than the Congressional internship, but I thought that I would throw it in the post for good measure. Thanks for your feedback.
  14. Hi, Has anyone recently submitted an application for exam/license in California? I get really confused if the board asks hospital intern hours from foreign graduates, or we can go only with outpatient pharmacy experience? I wrote to the board and they replied they want 600 hours inpatient experience, which really shocked me, as finding a hospital internship is really hard. I would greatly appreciate your answers and help!
  15. I just passed both FPGEE and TOEFL and now I am waiting for the Certificate to arrive. I already got the.Place where I can do my internship. I have some questions about the internship if any of you can give me the clarification. 1.In the Internship Instructions, it states that the extended intern registration will be expired if the extended-intern fail NAPLEX or MPJE. I would like to have the clarification that if the failure occur within 6 months after getting FPGEC, will I have a chance to re-take the test and try to pass within 6 months or the extended intern will be expired immediately after the first attemp regardless the period of time? 2.Does the extended internship require more than one pharmacy setting? Can I be and intern in 1 setting (for example, Long Term Care Pharmacy) for 1,500 hrs? Thank you. :)
  16. Hi everybody, I'm a foreign pharmacist graduate and already have all the certifications, just sent my application for an intern permit 10 days ago and I am looking for an internship in Tampa, FL. Any tips? suggestions? Any other foreign graduates who have already found internships? Help please!
  17. Dear ex interns or Pharmacist... Please can you pass me any information how I can find internship soon, any state even if it's volunteer work. I don't have SSN or any sort of visa except I can stay in US as a visitor for 90 days. Also if you know any independent pharmacy out there. Awating for my FPGEC. Thanks :apple:
  18. I am finishing up my applications for an economics Ph.D. and am wondering what to do with my summer. I currently work as a research assistant but plan to quit in time to have a month or two to pursue something else before I start a Ph.D. program this summer/fall. What should I do with this time? P.S. In case you were wondering, "Jon Watson" is an alias.
  19. Hi, I'm a pharmacist from the Philippines and I'm planning to take the pebc evaluating exam in January 2011 and I'm planning to practice in Alberta. I've read all the requirements to practice as a pharmacist in Alberta and they require pharmacy internship. I've found this on their site: Pre-requisites for intern registration: 1.Successfully complete the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) Evaluating Exam (http://www.pebc.ca); 2.Meet English language fluency requirement; 3.Be a permanent resident, Canadian citizen, landed immigrant, or hold a valid employment visa. My only problem is the third requirement. I'm not an immigrant in Canada and I plan to apply for a temporary resident visa only to sit for the PEBC Evaluating Exam. Can someone please tell me how to acquire a valid employment/working visa? Can I just apply to any community pharmacy in Alberta for internship during my stay there as a temporary resident visa holder? Thank you very much. :)
  20. Hi everybody, I just found out that I passed the NAPLEX I'm so excited I can't wait for the next step but I don't know what I'm supposed to do now. 21. I just want to ask if any of u guys know why is it so hard to find an pharmacy internship for a foreign graduate at this time?
  22. Hi all, I have passed my FPGEE and am currently In the USA on H4 visa. I am trying to find out if there is any state that will let me take the NAPLEX before starting internship hours? Any pointers or help will be greatly appreciated.

  24. I'm a foriegn pharmacist and now preparing the rest two exams (MCQ and OSCE) in November 2011. Unfortunately I didn't obtain the right of permanent residence in Canada and I’m wondering if I can easily find a sponsor in Canada for internship right after the third test or not. Is it really possible for foreign pharmacists passed all exams but without PR to find the way to complete the internship? I wonder what the reality is. I’m looking forward for valuable comments. Thank you.
  25. Hello everyone! I just wanted to ask those who did their Internship in the state of FL or those who have any info regarding this matter: Is the total number of Internship hours 2,080? or is it 2,580? Do you have to add the 500 supervised hours? Or is it already included in the 2,080 total hours? Any helpful information is appreciated. Thank you!
