    I am a first year management PhD student this year. I applied to 10 programs with just GRE scores - only one of the programs had expressed a preference for GMAT, and applying with a GRE instead didn't seem to have any bearing on my application.

    Vyndian - you have a great profile! I would be surprised if you don't get a few acceptances given your stats and background. A few suggestions: 1 - To flesh out your research interests, consider focusing on the "Future Research" sections of the papers that interest you most. What are the unanswered questions related to the topics you find most fascinating? How might you be able to build on existing research of faculty at your target programs? 2 - When you consider where to apply, keep in mind that research fit matters a lot more than general university reputation, or even business school reputation. The alignment of your research interests with faculty is what matters most. When I see someone applying and they give a laundry list of top schools that don't appear to have a clear thread (ex: top professors in XYZ), I fear they are approaching applications more like undergrad or an MBA, where "rank" matters a lot more. For example, Booth doesn't have a particularly strong OB/management area... 3 - Is your goal to become a professor at a b-school after your studies? If so, make sure this is front and center in your application!

    These are all great programs. My recommendation to anyone applying is to find the faculty working on the research that interests you most and apply to the programs where they train students. A great research fit at a top 50 university is likely better than a so-so fit at a top 20 university. All of the programs you mentioned have a reputation for placing graduates in tenure track faculty positions or solid post-docs. As you probably know, most management/OB programs are fairly small and only take a few students each year. Even with a top notch profile, competition at all of the schools you listed is stiff. I would recommend applying as broadly as you can.

    I think you stand a chance, for sure! Your profile is competitive, and even if you haven't published the papers yet, being active in research currently will demonstrate your commitment and that you know what you're getting yourself into. I would plan to apply this Fall, and if you apply broadly, I'd be surprised if you didn't get in somewhere.

    I do not know for sure, and I imagine it varies by school. I would anticipate at least some activities will be happening on university campuses this fall, but whether you need to be there full time I think is likely variable by program. The PhD coordinator at the program you are planning to attend might be able to answer this.

    I can't say for sure, but I'm happy to share my own stats: Applied to 10, accepted to 4, rejected from 4, withdrew from 1 (was invited to interview day, but was already accepted to preferred programs), and 1 that i am still waiting on (I interviewed about 2 weeks ago).

    I interviewed for Organizations & Management and haven't heard back either. Not sure if they are on the same timeline though.

    Can confirm Michigan sent out OB invites - not sure how many they sent, or if all have been extended. Emory already extended invites as well (though I'm not sure if they do multiple rounds of interviews)

    I feel you BrandFreak, I am struggling to get through my last one too! Good luck with the ones you have remaining. We are almost to the finish line!

    Wow, thanks for the info! I didn't realize those had scaled back - that's too bad, makes for a lonely management cohort for the one student admitted! And congrats on getting your 15 applications in, and good luck with any others you decide to do! I opted to apply to 10 this year, and if I'm not admitted anywhere, I will take another shot next year.

    Michigan said on an info session that they are likely only admitting one student per area (compared to 3-4 in a normal year). I haven't heard that from other programs though, how about you?

    Congratulations on getting the apps submitted and good luck. In prior years, it looks like the earliest responses came in early January. I wouldn't expect to hear anything sooner than that --- definitely wouldn't expect to hear anything in advance of the program deadlines.

    At least in the US, many of the programs that can be completed part-time and at a distance are not funded. If that is an option, Virginia Tech has a program designed for working professionals who already hold a masters degree (Ph.D. in Business: Concentration in Executive Business Research | Pamplin College of Business | Virginia Tech). Oklahoma State has a similar program (Ph.D. in Business for Executives | Spears school of business | Oklahoma State University).

Test Scores - GRE: 167 Q, 162 V awa 4.0 Undergrad GPA: 3.72 in labor economics Graduate GPA: N/A Research Experience: Worked as a Research Assistant for a business school professor for 2 years during undergrad; completed undergraduate honors thesis Teaching Experience: none Work Experience: 5 years total: 2 as a technical program manager and 3 as a research & analytics manager for an org design company Concentration Applying to: Management, Organizational Behavior Number of programs planned to apply to: 5-10 Dream Schools: Booth, Kellogg, WashU Olin, Wharton, Michigan Other Questions: What made you want to pursue a PhD? I'm interested in how organizations meet their strategic objectives when they require significant collaboration outside of traditional "org chart" boundaries. I believe there is a gap in existing research in this area - specifically, in how technical and non-technical teams collaborate to deliver complex integrated software solutions (for anyone in tech - think Scrum, Scaled Agile Framework, Kanban, etc). I'm passionate about my research questions, and would like to dedicate my career to exploring them (and teaching others what I learn). Questions or concerns you have about your profile I realize my analytical writing score is low. Do you think it is worth re-taking the test to improve it? For recommenders, I'm planning to use two professors for whom I worked as an RA in college. For the third, I am considering using my former boss who supervised me in a research & analytics role.
