Hey all, I am waitlisted at my top choice but will be allowed to join the virtual visit along with admitted people. Along with the virtual visit I will be talking to some professors individually on skype. I'm assuming these talks are mostly just to introduce myself and my research interests and to discuss how they might fit in as a potential mentor if I get in. Are there any other things I should be aware of, or good potential questions to ask beyond the obvious ones? I do want to make a good impression so that if they do start taking people off the waitlist they think of me.

I already know which school I'm going to go to with 100% certainty, but wondered if it looks bad to accept before the visit day. I don't want it to look like I made a cavalier decision or that I didn't receive any other offers. Thoughts? Thanks!

Yale undergrad here. The only beef I have with Princeton is its messy Visit Day which didn't leave good impression on me because I didn't have time for one-on-one faculty meetings and its up-and-down placements. Meanwhile NYU and Yale fare better in terms of placement. Not sure about my interests yet. Probably not Macro theory or Metrics (but might be applied metrics or macro labor/development etc.) Talked to some real nice Yale profs during Visit Day. Would it help career-wise to expand my network outside of Yale?

One of the department who offered me a place is inviting the admitted students to their visit day, with reimbursement allowance. However, as an international student, it's still ocstly. I estimated that the trip would cost fourth-fold of the allowance. That's huge to me right now. I am in a hard struggle of going or not. I really don't know if the visit is supposed to sell the department, or it contains something crucial for my academic career. Appreciate for any experience shared.

Hi all, visit days are coming up and I was wondering if anyone else was nervous. I have been invited to a few visit days but for two of them i am either waitlisted or admitted but waitlisted for funding. I was wondering if anyone has any insight on what usually visit days tend to be (and how formal or informal meetings with faculty might be), because I'm slightly nervous.

Could anyone that attended either of these visit days give me their overall impression of the department? Which fields do they seem stronger in, attrition rates, overall happiness of the grad students, how often they meet with advisors, any specifics about the program that is unusual? Any info would be really helpful, thanks in advance! -

If a school that you have an offer from, but haven't decided whether to attend or not (I certainly haven't decided against it--in which case I'd decline, but I am still waiting for higher-ranked programs to get back to me) offers to fly you out to meet faculty and visit with students, is there anything wrong with agreeing to visit, as long as you are up front about having not made your mind up, and don't make any promises you can't keep? That is kind of the point right? They are flying you out because they know you're unsure and they want to convince you? I don't want to waste their time or money if I get something better, but on the other hand, this is a program that isn't extremely highly ranked, but has some (on paper) really good research and faculty that I'd like to meet. -

Hi everyone. I got accepted to one of my top choices, and they've invited me to visit campus as part of their admitted students day. Unfortunately, the date is a pretty difficult conflict with a work deadline, so it's going to be really tough for me to make it. Do you think it's essential that I come on the admitted students day?

Anyone has any idea what I should do when two of my top schools have visit day on the same day? Unfortunately, it is not the admit day after the final admission, but almost like an on-site interview which follows after Skype interviews. Both schools mentioned in their email that the final decision will be made after the visit day. Would this mean that I have to choose one of two schools? ;( Should I ask one school to reschedule the visit day? If anyone has a good idea of what I can do, please let me know!

Hey y'all! I have been contacted by a few tier- 1 schools that are interested in flying me out to visit their campuses and departments. That being said, it is virtually impossible for me to take off work. Is it acceptable for me to decline a campus visit without adversely affecting the outcome? Thanks!

Hey guys, here is my situation and I am looking for an appropriate way to deal with it . I got an invitation to a campus visit two weeks ago and I accepted the invite. Last week I got an offer from one of my very target school and a very ideal contract from them. I have not yet signed the legal document, but the chance that I am signing it is 99%. In this case, I feel bad no matter what I decide on the campus visit. If I still go, I feel like I am wasting their budget and time. If I cancel the trip, I feel bad as I had expressed my great enthusiasm about visiting them. What will be the most proper way of dealing with this? -
Hey all, So I just got invited for a campus visit from one of my reach schools (suuuper excited) and am kind of wondering what to expect and, more importantly, how to prepare. I've had a quick chat with one of the professors and he told me that they're inviting a few more people than they have spots. It sounds like they day is going to be filled with campus tours, meeting grad students, and meeting several professors. Is there any advice those of you more familiar with the process can give? What do I need to be prepared for? I assume I should know about the research of the faculty members I end up meeting and I probably should have a few questions prepared. Anything else? What kind of questions are good to ask? What questions do those of you already enrolled wish you would have asked back then? I keep telling myself that it's also a chance for me to get to know the place and the faculty their, but I am currently too worried about getting in that I'm just thinking about how to increase my chances of admission. Sorry for the lose collection of thoughts. My excitement may have gotten the better of me here. Hope some of you might chime in with some thoughts. I'd really appreciate anything you can think of. This invitation came way earlier than expected. There will be workshop and individual interviews with professors. Just wondering generally speaking, how how much is the chance of admission from campus visit? I know maybe this is a hard to answer question, but any thoughts could help! Thanks! Also, any tips for how to behave during the visit? especially the workshop part. I will share my experience with the visit and forgive me for hiding the name. -
