phd in economics - job
If your main goal is a PhD in econ this fall, then RA/TA experience especially RA is usually much more valuable than consulting, since admissions committees mainly look for strong research signals and letters from economists; consulting won’t hurt, but it typically doesn’t help much unless it’s very research-heavy and clearly econ-focused. TAing in econ is better than consulting, but since you’ve already done several TAships, the added benefit may be limited unless it leads to a strong letter. An RA position, even short-term, would be ideal, but if you can’t get one and need the income, consulting is fine as a backup just don’t expect it to significantly strengthen your application, and changing the job title won’t really matter compared to what your recommenders can credibly say about your research ability. -

Rising Junior Seeking Some Advice
For the most part, I concur. At that point, grades and letters will be more important than adding another challenging course to the already extensive coursework schedule for econ PhD preparation. Additionally, I believe that the emphasis on research skills is excellent strong math without proof that it can be turned into research is a common gap. An advanced econometrics course linked to an actual research topic would likely offer more signal than another theory-heavy course, if space permits. -

PhD Economics USA - Chances of being accepted
I concur with this. PhD committees demand unambiguous proof that the math foundation is present, even in the absence of formal math courses on the transcript. If a professor specifically states that you performed well in multivariable calculus, linear algebra, or proof-based subject, letters of recommendation might be quite helpful. Seconding the GRE point, a Q score of less than 165 is frequently a hard filter for US econ PhD candidates, particularly at institutions like ASU or UC. Taking a few stand-alone math classes (or a predoc or RA post) before applying could greatly increase your chances if your math preparation is lacking. -

[Toefl Essay] It is better travel in their own country
You make a valid point, in my opinion, particularly regarding cost and how exchange rates can significantly impact travel decisions. Your examples from Brazil demonstrate that you don't need to travel outside to see incredible locations and engage with varied cultures; traveling within your own nation may be just as rewarding. Additionally, the first-hand account of Rio and Christ the Redeemer lends credibility to your claim. All things considered, it's a rational and obvious viewpoint.
